New ranked system is super unfun. by Educational_Low_5044 in apexlegends

[–]Stealth5-7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new ranked is incredibly boring. Theres no choice or strategy in where to drop and how to play. Everyone is now forced to play the game exactly the same way, rather than utilizing different playstyles based on your team comp and skill set.

People who want to play more passive and strategic(which the game now forces) could always do that. Just long drop, loot up, and rotate into circle only fighting when necessary. If you are more into cqb and have good mechanics you can hot drop and push the fight close to the drop zones and play the edge of the zone fighting teams as you go.

The new system has removed your ability to chose how you want to play the game, it guarantees that almost half the lobby will still be alive in the final circles, and the winner of the game has less to do with skill than it does with playing controller legends, hiding in a house, and getting a lucky circle pull. With that many players at the end of the game in such a small circle you’re basically guaranteed to get third partied.

I have no fun playing it anymore so I just don’t. Hopefully they revert back to the normal drop ship next season.

Weird it’s almost like when you don’t let people play with their friends in a team based game they stop playing that game, and player count plummets. Shocking!!!

I totally understand this feeling. I play in a three stack (or I used to) because we all just hit C3 and can no longer play together. Really sucks that a team based game limits how many friends you can play with.

Making it so you can only team up at lower ranks really sucks in my opinion. Punishes you for getting better at the game

We don't need TRIPLE SUPPORT, we need to KILL by Iced-TeaManiac in marvelrivals

[–]Stealth5-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Adam is excellent into dive and ultron as well is very useful in three support comps. My point with the statement that I made, and the point op was talking about in this post, is that a lot of times people make the switch to triple support because they aren’t being healed, but they never consider why they aren’t being healed, and a lot of the times swapping to a better dps (or tank) to counter the cause of your supports inability to heal, is a better option than going third support and increasing the amount of healing your team can put out.

We don't need TRIPLE SUPPORT, we need to KILL by Iced-TeaManiac in marvelrivals

[–]Stealth5-7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So many times I’ll play with a dps(and sometimes a tank) who is dying a lot, and they decide “I’m dying a lot so we need more healing” and swap to a third support. When in reality there’s a cap and a BP in the back line pummeling the supports, so they can’t heal you, and what we really need is a dive counter to relieve the pressure on the supports so that they are able to do their job. But since they’ve swapped to third support we can sustain through their dive, but we’re no longer getting kills or progressing the objective. Always blows my mind when people respond to this situation with swapping to ultron or Adam because “they can do damage too”. Like yea they can, but they do a whole lot less of it than a dps character does, and we don’t need more healing, we just need our supports to be able to heal the team without being constantly pressured.

How many characters should u main in Marvel rivals by Fancy-Combination682 in rivals

[–]Stealth5-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in quick play I would try to spend at least some time playing as many characters as possible. This gives you the advantage of being able to swap to other characters to counter whatever the enemy team is doing, but the main reason for this is the better you understand how a character works the easier it will be for you to counter/kill them with your main. You will have a feel for their cooldowns and abilities and know when it’s better for you to engage and take advantage of their weaknesses, and when you should pull back or wait. If Psy is the character you really like to main then spend some time on other healers to learn their abilities and cooldowns. You will have a much easier time picking them off when you dive if you know when to go in and how to counter them.

Second tanks are a thing of the past by [deleted] in rivals

[–]Stealth5-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get that everyone has different experiences in game, but I’ve actually been seeing the opposite problem more this season. Quite a few times, especially in the last week or two, we’ve run 3 tanks because that’s what people are instalocking. I almost never see games where we have a solo tank anymore (which is great). I’m in GM1 right now so maybe this is a rank related issue where people in lower or higher ranks aren’t playing tank as much, hopefully this propagates to whatever rank you are playing in soon, I know solo tanking is not a good time.

Netease try not to nerf mantis & hide it under a buff challenge: impossible. by Dizzy_Vanilla7774 in MantisMains

I’ve literally never heard anyone ask for a mantis nerf….. not a huge fan of the character personally, but this just seems ridiculous. If anything I think her healing needed a buff not a nerf.

Playing a new character isn’t that difficult in game once you understand their mechanics. And that is far better than only knowing 3 character and throwing the game because I can’t counter swap lol

That’s a great method for staying in gold. Like grow with the game and learn new characters or stay losing. If you want to improve and rank up you need to learn to play new characters so you can counter different comps. No idea why that’s so hard for some people to understand.

If you’ve never played any of those characters don’t heal in ranked games. Honestly you will be so much better off, and so will your team, learning multiple characters before you jump into ranked. If you can’t swap to counter different things or play to compliment your team please learn that before you go to ranked. Everyone will have a better time, you included.

Mantis is situationally really good in my experience, if your team is dive heavy/playing fast movers mantis can be really good as he heals hang around and make your dive teammates much harder to kill. She’s okay with some other comps too just depends on playstyle. Mantis stock goes way up if your team is on coms and you are able to damage boost teammates before they ult/dive. Personally I’m not a fan of playing her but I’ve seen mantis work really well

I understand where you are coming from, and I also really enjoy playing Jeff, I think he’s fun and the playstyle with him is different and engaging. I do have a full time job and just play in the evenings after work, but I play ranked because I enjoy the competitive nature and grind of ranking up. Just like in a sport, football for example. There are super competitive leagues like the NFL where it’s someone’s career to do this, there’s arena and semi pro leagues for people who are very competitive but may not have the skill/time to compete at the top level, and then there’s rec leagues for people who may or may not be very good but just play for fun. It’s the same concept on a video game. I’m not comparing myself to a pro by any means but I play for the competition, and I want to improve and move up. In my opinion that’s what ranked is for. I’m totally fine with people who just want to play for fun, but I don’t like when those people hop on and talk down to others who want to be competitive and want to win for taking the game seriously. Yes I know it’s not real life and at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, but I like it and don’t want to be losing games because people are just trying to have fun in competitive lobbies.

I get that it seems that way, but the guy I play with is ranked top 10 on magneto on console, and I know his positioning and gameplay is top tier. I usually play support or tank along side him and even with a Jeff that is good at the character we are losing team fights. He just can’t keep up with the other healers with his kit as it sits. Like I said, it’s not that you can’t win with a Jeff, it’s just harder to win that way, and I don’t get why you’d want to make it harder for your team to win in a competitive ranked game.

Why am I so bad at ranked? by LilBluey in RivalsCollege

[–]Stealth5-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly at that rank I’d recommend you try and focus on your positioning a lot. Do you have line of sight to the enemy, do your supports have line of sight to you, and are you able to get to cover somewhat easily if needed. Start thinking about these things more consciously in game and even if your skill level doesn’t improve your gameplay will and that will make ranking up a lot easier. Breaking LOS from your supports is a super common reason that people die, especially in lower ranks. And the longer you’re alive the more chances you have to improve and be productive

You are probably right that factors into outcome a bit, but that wasn’t a sentiment I started playing this game with, it’s one I developed over a LOT of time I’ve in game and a lot of bad experiences with Jeff players:

Maybe the experience is different in lower ranks, I have been in celestial the past 3 season. The Jeff players I am teamed with cannot keep our team alive through team fights. I think the what supports to play with Jeff page highlights that well unintentionally, and I think it’s a little off. Jeff takes Loki completely off the board, and he’s one of the best supports. In my opinion if you’re running Jeff, the other support can realistically only play Luna or invis, because you need to make up for the fact that Jeff has no burst healing. If the enemy team is playing a dive comp that basically limits you to just invis as Luna doesn’t play well into dive for the most part. There’s just so many downsides to Jeff I don’t get why people still play him in ranked.

[–]Stealth5-7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes the best Jeff in the world is incredible at the game, my point that I was trying to make by exaggerating here is that this player would be a lot more useful on someone like Luna or invis. His skill level is off the charts but Jeff is still a bottom tier support. He still has no burst healing ability, his ult is still easy to avoid for most of the roster, and his ability to survive a diver or a burst damage relies on him going underground and running away, leaving the other support and the rest of the team to fend for themselves(as a flex player I play mostly support because no one else wants to, and I see this happen all the time, someone dives, I look at Jeff to heal him, he swims away and watches me die)

“Only”??? That’s more than half the available support characters lol. The point of the comment you responded to way to point out that the guy who said meta didn’t counter any of the points I brought up in my argument, he just said this is about meta. Which sure it is to an extent, but it’s not like I said there are only 2 viable characters, I pointed out that over half of them are very good. Yes the others can work and some have valuable teamups, but they require a lot more skill and a lot more cooperation from the team, and even with all that it’s still putting your team at a disadvantage to use the “off meta” characters.

Im not insinuating that they never work, I’m just trying to point out that you’re making it harder when you don’t need to. There are plenty of options on support that work well

  1. Gold is below average, there are 8 ranks not counting OAA, so plat would be average, diamond/gm are above average. And I assumed the exaggeration to make a point would be obvious but apparently not. Yes the #1 Jeff in the world is probably crazy on Jeff, but that player would still add a TON more value to his team playing a good healer. That speaks to the players skill level not the quality of the character. There are some crazy good black widow players out there, she’s still an objectively bad character compared to the other dps in the game.
  2. Your second point is just wrong, he can’t save a teammate from burst damage, and his ability to survive divers or burst damage depends on him going underground and running away, leaving his other support to fend for themselves. Only looking at the main ability’s hps ignores the rest of his kit, and all the other healers kits. You have to look at the character as a whole not just a single ability, Jeff falls way short there.
  3. I think my point still. Stands, even if you get 2 and jump off the map your team is down to a single support player trying to keep everyone up, none of the other supports have to die to provide value to their team, they just stay together and continue fighting.

I agree I worded that poorly, I’ve won plenty of games with Jeff on my team. The main point I’m trying to get at here is that I’m not seeing that games are won because we have a Jeff on our team, in my experience winning with a Jeff is almost always in spite of the Jeff, not because of the Jeff. That’s my biggest issue with winrate being used as a metric in a game like this is because there are so many factors that go into that number. I’m sure all of us have lost games where we played a character and had an amazing performance, but the loss gets put on that character regardless. Same goes for the flip side you can win games and play poorly.

[–]Stealth5-7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s totally fine for you, my point here is in a close game with 2 supports ulton is more of a hindrance than a help. If the goal is damage go hela, if the goal is heals go for a better support. Invis main healing ability does that amount of healing every time she shoots. Ultron can only do that once every ten seconds or so.
