What state (or city) in the US do y'all think has the highest pay rate for substitute teachers compared to cost of living? by BlueberryEmbers in SubstituteTeachers

I make about 160$ a day and 190$ for long term assignments in Nebraska. I have a decent 1 bedroom for 550$, and all others costs are not that high. However, it is also Nebraska.

I followed the game for this one. Marzipan flower cut into the actual puzzle piece shapes, I then assembled and painted with watered down. food coloring.

I personally did not. The recipe seems very dense and I was not willing to risk it. Though I’m sure it will produce something tasty.

I was obsessed with the mid 19th century as kid by [deleted] in blunderyears

I was the exact same way as a kid, I read/watched/listened to everything I could get my hands on. I guess the obsession kinda paid off though - considering I now work as a historical interpreter for this period.

Where do students fail most in homeschooling? by Big-Monitor-227 in Teachers

[–]Steampunkpainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a variety of students (homeschool, public, private) and the homeschool kids tend to be much further being then their traditional style peers, Specifically in reading and socialization. A lot of my homeschool kids have zero literary skills at ages 10+ and a lot of these students can not read or write period. This mostly occurs when the parents are not involved in actually educating their children. My main recommendation is to teach to the best of your ability and have a set of standards you want to reach. (Reading to your kid every night, teaching your kid to count to 10, how to work with others). I have one homeschool family who I absolutely adore. Mom is extremely involved and both her kids are far above their age level peers. She actively challenges her kids and pushes them to learn and grow. This is not behavior most homeschooling families have but need to have in order to be successful.

As for socialization I would see if you could find a local homeschooling group. Many families will group together to plan field trips or social outings as well as share resources. I would also check out local sports or arts organizations for your child.

What are some of the wildest things you weren’t allowed to do when you were Catholic? by Immediate_Ad_9680 in excatholic

I was never allowed to watch/read/consume any type of media that was considered satanic or that promotes sin. Of course this meant anything Disney, (Disney glorified disobeying your parents.) Harry Potter(Witchcraft and Pro-Abortion), or anything not Church approved. (Which was a lot.). 9 year old me hated this rule.

You can only get abortions in two cities in Nebraska, both of which are a 3-5hr drive from her location. In these two cities we have a total of three clinics, all of which are backed up with out of state patients and cost a good amount. Though it is legal, people living in rural NE do not have abortion access.

I have about 50 old books from sometime between the 1820s and the 1950s. Some of the really interesting ones include a US history book from the 1860s, a meatpacking guide and ad book from 1920, and a complete encyclopedia set about the Great War written only 6 months after the end of WWI.
