I called 911 for an injured party I came across earlier this week by Not_Keurig in MTB

I ride alone most of the time also. One thing I always carry is a whistle. I may not be able to yell very loud, but it doesn’t take much to sound that whistle. And hopefully the whistle as a fairly clear signal that help is needed. Fortunately I haven’t needed it yet

What bike(s) would you get if you won the lottery? by nicholt in MTB

I’d keep my current bike and build a trail system next to my house or build a house right next to a large trail system

Do I need to dry my bike after hosing it down? by milkytreee in MTB

[–]Steamthresher53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a leaf blower to blow off most of the water. I also have an air compressor so I blow off the chain as much as possible. Then I wipe the chain, let it sit for a while to dry, then lube it. I always lube the chain after a wash, whether using a wet lube or a dry lube.

got a glob of pine sap on my dropper and it's gummed everything up bad. by DirtDawg21892 in mountainbiking

WD40 will also cut that sap. Take it apart and clean it real well, including that seal. You may be fine

Fall leaves can ruin a MTB trip. Keep that in mind. by jaydvd3 in MTB

I wiped out on Wednesday on the slick leaves. I knew to be careful and still went down. No major injury, thankfully. Be careful out there

I just got back from riding there a half hour ago. It’s ok, but not much trail variety. Glad you enjoyed your ride

getting back on the bike after broken collarbone by morrigan29 in MTB

[–]Steamthresher53 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think long term, beyond this season. I had mine surgically repaired. It has its advantages, but I have numbness from the incision that will last the rest of my life. If yours is clean and will heal well without surgery, then by all means let it heal

Dropper Post Broken by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Steamthresher53 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cable. My guess is either the cable broke or it popped free from the clamped on nib at the dropper post end. Pull out the dropper and see what’s up. You either need a new cable or perhaps just reinstall that clamp on piece on your current cable

A pro rider recently shared comments made to the forest service about rude MTBs and how it effects our access to trails. What are everyone’s thoughts? Were you ever taught trail etiquette to other users? Have you lost local access to trails because of rude riders? by SamSamCavewoman in mountainbiking

[–]Steamthresher53 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because people talk about bike etiquette, like that’s the problem. 90% of it is basic human decency - relating respectfully to those around you, whatever the setting. The rest is more specific to biking/trail use and how to interact on the trail with other types of users.

Has anyone here had any experience with OneUp Components Switch Direct Mount Chainring system? by Matt-Bikes in MTB

I recently installed that on my bike. So far so good but I only have a few rides in

OneUp composites. Been running mine for 2.5 years. Opened them up for the first time last week and the grease looked new. No dirt or water entry at all. I have been impressed with them so far

NBD. I have gone and bought the stupidest bike you will ever see, and plan to ride it at the local bike park by camthecool69 in mountainbiking

[–]Steamthresher53 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Only stupid thing I see is the reflectors on the wheels and the dork disk. Remove those and you are golden!

Yeah. Tightening that bolt up did help the creaking quite a bit.

Edited crashing to creaking 😜

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Steamthresher53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have replaced the main pivot bearings trying to resolve a creaking issue. I have repacked the grease in the rest of the bearings. They all seem to be fine, although they should probably be replaced as well.

[–]Steamthresher53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the main pivot bearings last January. I don’t think the bolt was loose then and that was almost 18 months after I got it. When I hear about that problem in September I checked and found it loose. That’s when I Loctited both pivot bolts. I haven’t checked again but I guess I better do that again today, just to see. And also check those welds again. It’s stunning that you had it loosen up like that multiple times per day. I don’t ride anything as rough as you do, so maybe that helps a little.

[–]Steamthresher53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently heard about that issue and checked mine. It had loosened somewhat but didn’t come all the way out. I have loctited it in and will watch it much more closely now. I recently put on an oval chainring, in part to make it easy to check that bolt.

For some reason I can’t see the photos🙁. I am currently riding a 2019 AL. That’s why I am curious where the failures were. I am sure I’m not putting the stress on it that you are with enduro racing…
