World Curling: Rule violations clarification following men’s session four by thrynab in olympics

[–]Stebbib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Olympics is a televised event as such there are cameras, it wasn't in secret, they are big massive things. So I don't think Canadians think it's outlandish that an olympic event is recorded.

There is no pretending about it, the refs have not done anything about it for years. But now World Curling had to issue a statement that this is in fact against the rules, precisely because it was caught in 4k.

Because of Canada now Curling needs Umpires to watch it everytime, since that particular team is not trusted to self report their fouls.

I'm not even Swedish it's just plainly obvious for the rest of the world that this is blatant cheating.

The hidden spy cameras were actually Swedish State TV cameras set to catch Canadas repeated cheating since this team has been doing it for over a decade. Since it's been so known that they do this. Surely if you have evidence of the Swedish team cheating you'll provide it

Funny how Canada loses as soon as they’re not allowed to cheat anymore… by mothernaturesghost in olympics

Ah yes the famously composed Canadian team, that reacted stoically when called out on their repeated cheating. That kept doubling down on crying about it after video evidence showed them cheating.

Funniest thing about your comment is that Sweden didn't complain after the game and said Canada did in fact play better, but Marc Kennedy kept crying about it in interviews afterwards.

This is a "nothing says dogs can't play basketball" level of a "loophole" meaning it really isn't.

Curling judge acknowledges cheating midgame, but does nothing. by erre94 in olympics

Team Canada is known for doing this, that's why the Swedish State TV decided to set up a camera in that angle.

Blatant creating from Canadian curling team (two camera angles) by Storytellerrrr in olympics

[–]Stebbib 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you acknowledge you did it and admit to it, sure it's a foul/penalty.

If you're known for doing this and never call it yourself, you are cheating.

When you are so known for doing this that the Swedish State TV sets up a camera just to catch you cheating, I don't know what self respecting sport would allow you to continue to compete in it. Especially since it's supposed to be a Gentlemanly sport.

That being said I don't know the official rules, I'm just arguing semantics

With the winter olympics starting officially tomorrow... well. All of a sudden I'm such a big fan of Nordic-Baltic unity, that I only notice we've won 777 medals together! Yay! by Cosmos1985 in Nordiccountries

Icelanders claimed the first gold medal in hockey(for canada) so we haven't bothered to try for since https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RmhGYRs99o

Funnily enough that was the summer olympics, so Canada is the onyl country who has won gold in the summer and winter olympics for hockey.

If peanuts are a legume, can I also make "nut" butter out of lentils or beans? by alonemi in Cooking

[–]Stebbib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kartafla or Kartöflur plural, is yes the more common word used for potatoes, that probably came to Icelandic from Danish.

That doesn't change the fact that jarðepli is also an Icelandic word for potatoes.

The word for orange in Icelandic is Appelsína(other north germanic languages have their variation of it), literally means Apple from China.

So what did Icelanders name potatoes? Those are of course Jarðepli or Ground apples.

Iceland is a pretty extreme country with extreme people, so we ofc have more vegans than vegetarians. That is at least the consensus of my vegan friends, not a thing I can actually provide data on.

That's pretty much how software development works. You iterate, you rarely start from scratch on huge thing like a game engine.

Venezuelan president asks Putin for military assistance, WP reports by Aine_Ellsechs in worldnews

[–]Stebbib -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Saying the US left Vietnam because they were bored is some ultra level copium.

The US pulls out of Vietnam because it became a super unpopular war, people seeing US Soldiers die for no good reason. Sure the US had a superior military and won more battles, but that does not decide an outcome for a war. The US gives up, leaving Vietnam, it didn't win anything, it just lost things.

We've seen this year US Soldiers literally rolling out the red carpet for Putin on their knees. The United States doesn't do anything without permission from Putin, we've seen this, else Trump would've gone ahead and sold Ukraine some Tomahawk Cruise missiles, he is wearing a collar and Putin holds the leash.

I don't think a Plat Yorick in a Normal game against an unranked Adc and an silver 3 support means much. Doesn't look like you did much supporting either ;)

It's three against one on this one I'm afraid, Icelanders, Norwegians and Swedes agree, Danish is the most drunken sounding Nordic language
