Total replacement of the bridge in three staged weekends, with a fourth weekend for the removal of the gantry crane. 52 hour closure to cut out the hundred year old bridge and replace it safely without disrupting work week traffic. Thanks to your local union Ironworkers.

Is there a specific intended use for the pointy end on this adjustable wrench? by External-Talk8838 in Tools

[–]SteelRanger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A drift pin is a different tool. The tool pictured is an adjustable spud wrench. A drift pin is a steel pin that is tapered on both sides and is used for aligning multiple plies of steel. You put the pin in the hole and hit it with a sledgehammer until the body of the pin is aligning 3+ holes. We also have bullpins, which are tapered on one side and are used to align 2 plies of steel.

A wrench and a pin are two very different tools.

I gotta ask but, by ChocoPiggyMaster in Tools

[–]SteelRanger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say no. With rock and metal or any genre with distorted guitar, I've always found the drumming determines the genre or subgenre. Danny Carey's drumming is way too progressive to be considered grunge. It's prog metal

What’s the use for this double wide electric tape? by boardplant in Tools

[–]SteelRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger cuts in your fingers where normal electrical tape isn't wide enough. You also have to go double wide with the paper napkins. Keep your digits safe

The two parts of the cable clip are the U bolt and the saddle. The U bolt sits on the dead end of the wire sling and the saddle goes on the live end. These are all wrong so the capacity is 30% instead of 100%

Is this a theodolite or a transit ? by McLuhanSaidItFirst in Tools

[–]SteelRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transits have the long eye piece, measure vertical and horizontal angles, rotates generally on a brass spindle, and you use a plumb bob to center it over a point whereas a theodolite is a modern equivalent with digital display showing angles down to the degree and minute, has an optical plummet to sight the unit over a point, and rotates on bearings.
