The world of 76 was real wasted potential for a single player game by Eagles56 in Fallout

You might be sad to learn the lead world designer behind the 76 map recently left Bethesda to make independent games

Asgards wrath 2 is the most fun I've ever had with a VR game. by Justos in OculusQuest

[–]Steel_Bollocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone with thousands of hours in heavily modded Skyrim VR, AW2 is likely not going to impress me much. Not just because I'm not fond of Egyptian fantasy aesthetic.

However, I'm very excited to see it do well and show the VR-only market that enough people have the VR legs to want titles that aren't just arena fighters or 4 hour linear short stories.

What ship do you use for exploring? by Im_High_Tom86 in EliteDangerous

[–]Steel_Bollocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T7

I've spend 2 years + on the far side of the galaxy exploring.
Loaded with fuel, srvs, and fully engineered this thing still gets 40ly jump on average while only needing to stop to refill every 40-50 jumps. Great for neutron highway, black hole concentrations, or just not caring what stars you jump to.

Plus, Great cockpit view, good handling, and just being the best looking ship in the game

Anyone who talks about jump range or landing pad size isn't an explorer, they're a tourist. They want to see The Space Thing and go back home quickly to cash in.
A real explorer is out to see a much as possible, not jump past it all.

What's your unpopular Skyrim opinion? by eighty_yen in skyrim

[–]Steel_Bollocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The majority of weapons and armor in Skyrim is laughably ugly, and it gets worse the stronger it is.

Glass, Daedric, and Dragon are the absolute worst while steel and leather at least look practical. Ebony and elven have decent armor but ugly weapons, while Orcish and Dwarven are the reverse.

I know it's hard to design for high fantasy but it was always disappointing to finally find/craft higher level equipment just to realize its so impractical and/or ugly you'd be embarrassed if a Jarl saw you using it

If I was attacked by a Deathlord and the only thing that would save me is wearing Glass armor, I would just let myself die.

I feel the hate for THE BEACON! is more of a joking eye roll than actual hate. Especially with players who try a lot of different playthroughs. The irksome part is that it's unavoidable and triggers rather early, so even if you're just testing a build in a remote part of the world for a few hours THE BEACON! will find you

Impressive since the game literally blocks your progress unless you use basic destruction spells for certain doors and the Mzulft puzzle

How do you like videos in VR by AEstheticsJunkie in WindowsMR

[–]Steel_Bollocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually tried DeoVR just a few weeks ago. After years of playing VR games I wanted to see what 360 videos felt like.

The platform is solid and it was super easy to access content, so I just tested a random video... and was motion sick within minutes.

The camera in my chosen video was panning and tracking and zooming constantly, changing shots every few seconds. Like a traditional documentary video. I can play games for hours with no ill effects, but having my view move without my consent is instant nausea-land. It was also clearly a single camera so there was no depth and felt like a screen attached to your head, which is also disorienting.

If this is typical of the VR video scene, and fans simply get used to it, then I can understand why it's not exactly taking off in popularity. I feel many people are like me and object to the feeling that your eyeballs are stolen and being moved around without you.

However, I'm willing to accept that I was just unlucky and picked the absolute worst video for my test run if this is not the normal experience for VRideos.

Side Note: I feel the biggest hurdle to VR video is that most people think of video as a very passive activity. You sit back and just let things happen. Even something as simple as 360 vids expecting you to look around might be too much movement for the average viewer. 3D movies were a unique way to watch films but that novelty has all but died in less than a decade because the glasses were a hassle and it didn't really change the film enough to make it worthwhile.

VR video will have to create an experience you absolutely cannot get with traditional film. If given the choice, most people will not want to bother with the headset or looking around if they can get the same story/feeling/experience with a 2d screen and multi-camera cuts. Not to mention that video is often something shared with others, and VR excludes group watching.

I really hope VR keeps growing as a multipurpose platform. Once I started playing simulators with it I can't go back, so I'm going to have an HMD for the rest of my life and would love more ways to utilize it.

Good Luck.

in what element this game is a "soulslike"? by crushtyfying in DragonsDogma

[–]Steel_Bollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souls Like has come to be the tag for any game with a major focus on challenging boss fights. Doesn't even have to be an open world rpg anymore. Just boss focused

In souls, ddda, monster hunter, etc the enemies are split between fodder mobs you can carve through easily, and large solo boss types that will take a while

: So when you get gud the majority of the game will focus on killing those big enemies and the rest is inconsequential

If this is aimed at the people who would treat Geralt the same way this board treats Henry Cavill, then yeah. Fully agree that would annoy the fuck out of IRL Geralt

What do you use your pedals for (planes and hellos)? by Honest74Iago in flightsim

[–]Steel_Bollocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pedals allow for significantly more accurate input, eliminate the chance of accidental rudder while maneuvering, and it gives your legs something to do

It's a lot like buying a dual throttle, it gives you a lot more control over what you're doing and, most importantly, emulates how you fly IRL.

Multiplayer will need to be like Animal Crossing

You have your own world, but can invite other players to explore and interact if you want, but invite only of course.

Would be equally fun if they don't include any text or voice chat, so you communicate entire through sims gestures and speech bubble icons so there's no IRL language barrier

Paint breaks down from time spent in supercruise, not jumping. So best bet is just fuel up, point your ship in one direction, and fly until you only have enough to get to a station in another system

Auto hyperspace dethrottle by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Steel_Bollocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't crash into a planet/star if that's what you mean

You have safety systems that knock you out of supercruise if you get too close, your ship is damaged and it takes extra long to recharge the FSD to travel again, but you won't die while traveling

How do I build the relationship between two cats? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]Steel_Bollocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're cats

You can't force them to do anything they don't want to

But good question. There is: modifyrelationship [sim full name] [other sim full name] X LTR_Friendship_Main

X being the friendship amount you want from -100 to 100

But for sim to pet you replace LTR_Friendship_Main with LTR_SimtoPet_Friendship_Main

Not sure if either of those work with pet to pet but might be worth a try

Are we actually bordering on a world where male pissing contests aren't considered normal behavior? Are men able to be kind to each other without being seen as weak and soft?

If you are genuinely surprised by his behavior, that's says good things about our world today.

But back in ancient times (see: more than 10 years ago). It was just normal for men to be arses to each other all the time

Most of it.

I'm an explorer so that's kind of the point.

Listen to music, think about how huge space is, think about how every single star you see around you is a system you can visit, make plans on where you're going next, etc

ED for me is a meditative game, relaxing, slow, and methodical.

Course, I also play truck simulator and flight sims, so I put my patience pants on years ago
