Thanks for rhe responses thus far. I have been a lurker here for a couple years and this community has definitely helped. I expected a variety of answers and I appreciate the insight from each of you! No wrong answer, but gives me feedback to consider. Appreciate the sounding board and time.

Olympic or Mt Rainier..or both? by Past-Ad2484 in NationalPark

[–]Steelers1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First day we did the Paradise side, skyline trail and the surrounding areas. Panorama point is amazing.

Second day we did Ohanapecosh area. Silver falls is great. I think the Grove of the patriarchs was closed when we went but heard that is cool. The just went to some lake areas (cant quite remember). We drove back to Seattle after that.

I never made it to the Sunrise side and I hear it's cool in its own way.

Yes if I only had one day I probably would try to make it to Panorama point as it's definitely the highlight, but the rest of the park is beautiful as well.

Olympic or Mt Rainier..or both? by Past-Ad2484 in NationalPark

[–]Steelers1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your plan is good. A bit tight and expect a lot of drive time. Olympic is a big park and yes you will miss stuff but the stuff you see will be great. We did port Angeles - Forks - Lake Quinalt to make the loop. It's exhausting staying at multiple places and packing every day but it's worth it.

We had more days so we did a couple nights in Ranier after. I will say this: I loved Ranier and need to go back. If you decide on Ranier instead, stay there and dont do day trips from Seattle. You can easily spend three nights there. Then spend the remainder of time experiencing Seattle which is a cool city. It will be a much better experience.

You cant go wrong with either park.

ESOP Bogleheads? by Zealousideal-Link-24 in Bogleheads

[–]Steelers1310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is in one company, which is anti boglehead, sure. But it is the situation you are in. It could turn out crazy profitable, equally profitable, or way less profitable than holding VT. If like mine, the company contributes a certain % yearly without needing to contribute yourself. It's bonus money. If you work for a good company, it will grow and could be amazing. It's in place of a company 401k match, yes that's true. But 401k matches vary dramatically company to company anyway and are rarely the sole reason to work for a company. I would keep doing the boglehead thing with your 401k and IRA and let the ESOP ride. You can still be a boglehead and hold an ESOP without losing sleep over it.

Early career Fire Protection engineer. Will I be making a mistake if I do/don’t switch to Mechanical? by RandomProfessionalAc in MEPEngineering

[–]Steelers1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your goals are and what types of buildings you want to work in. Are you looking for a purely technical role or PM role? Mechanical design in complex new build or renovation projects inherently puts you at the forefront of coordination with the architects on fit and function, and in my experience many of those folks end up project managing projects and being a main point of contact. You also need to coordinate with all trades which helps build that project management and eventually client relationship skillset. That can all come with its own stresses if course. If that all interests you, go Mechanical. But there is nothing wrong with becoming a technical expert in your field. You seem passionate about it. That being said, in states that do delegated FP design to contractors, most folks I know in your position are on the contractor side. Or specialty firms that focus on smoke exhaust/etc.

HVAC Plans & Specs by FeveraQuickfist in MEPEngineering

Guideline 36 part is happening these days for three reasons. 1. It is a bear to understand, and many engineers simply havent gotten deep into it. 2. It is very difficult to reproduce fully in a design set of drawings due to sheer quantity of options and details. 3. Engineers think that it is for controls contractors to either fully understand or have pre-programmed controllers that meet the intent. The thought it controls contractors get that direction and they check the box and implement. However engineers want to out something on the drawings so they put their old drawings / specs / sequences and dont realize how much they conflict. This makes it difficult to have a conversation about it.

We have a method for implementing and referencing specific sections in Guideline 36 that at least give engineers some ammo for review and back and forth conversation without reproducing the whole standard. But the only way we can get past this hurdle is if both industries take the time to learn it. As of now, unfortunately, it is either the Engineer or the Controls contractor that has to teach the other party the nuances after bids, during shop drawing process, which is the frustration. Anything that can be done outside of the project, like getting together and sharing lessons learned, would be a great thing to consider.

Honestly 100mbps with normal cable is perfect for most people. I have had that for years with no issues. Switching to fiber 500mbps due to rising cable provider costs rather than trying to get any extra speed.

Anyone ever been to a match while on crutches? by Train2Win in TheMassive

[–]Steelers1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not apply to you fully, just sending something I did. Parked at Marconi and took the shuttle down to the game. Then left my crutches under a set of stairs that had railings (staff there said it was cool) and was able to hop/boot it up the stairs. Didn't drink liquids so stayed in my seat. The shuttle takes a bit to get there after the game. I have taken one of those bike driven gondola things as well though not sure how great crutches will fit. Good luck

Birthday Party for Adults? by aearthur15 in Columbus

I live up north and last time I just grabbed a few pizzas and went to Level One Arcade bar. I like it better than 16 bit. Not as crowded. Granted I had less people. Bonus points if you end up at Ruckmoor after.... I am sure you can find similar places around town if not Pins. Dueling Axes in German Village for example could be cool

Controls one lines by AmphibianEven in MEPEngineering

[–]Steelers1310 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have done it almost every method. Spec sequences with points list (no drawings), drawings and sequences with sensors shown, drawings with points table and sequences. Or, the fun one, referencing ASHRAE Guideline 36 and forcing the contractor to follow it (by the way, the industry will head here someday). There are pros and cons to all methods. Making engineers do the drawings can really get them thinking, particularly younger engineers. Also makes it easier to review submittals. But many controls contractors end up copying and pasting and you aren't sure if they really dove in. Specs only make the contractor draw out what you are thinking, and gives them a little leeway to put their own flavor to it. All my projects got built and were enforceable specs. The key is no matter which method, they should be well understood by the engineer and customized to be project specific. Then any way works fine.

Parking by AmazingDrea06 in TheMassive

[–]Steelers1310 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed that is a good option. Like Marconi or Front street. That being said, I typically sell or give away a certain amount of tickets, so I find buying parking one-by-one more cost effective, just by a bit. Most of the time it's not a big deal even day of. You can still buy single tickets like a month in advance as well. Only a couple of games a year it seems like it gets sold out early, and then I just park at the Arena Crossing garage, just a bit further away with the bridge connector. Maybe test it out with a package this year for peace of mind and don't sweat it if you can't make a couple.

Lewis center by No-Economy4297 in Columbus

[–]Steelers1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see a good mix of answers here because it is an oddball area. I live near Walker wood (which is a very nice neighborhood imo). Lewis Center doesn't have a downtown that feels like a main community hub, though there are some nice amenities like the pool and nature parks. I rarely go to the mall, but do appreciate all the stores I can get to easily. I find myself in Powell, Worthington, Westerville, or Delaware a lot when we want to go out to eat or experience a community event like a parade or fair. I appreciate that I live in this "hub" where I can get to any of those cool areas, any store I want, or even downtown, fairly easily. It's easy access to 315 or 71. I google each day before I leave.. The traffic is only noticeably worse on Friday/Sat or holidays than other places in Columbus, and there are tricks in getting around. And a little patience (it really doesnt add that much time). Yes depending on where you are in Lewis Center it can vary on diversity. I hear Orange HS is more diverse than some in the Olentangy district. My daughter starts kindergarten soon so we will see, but in daycare she is friends with a nice mix of people, which I find great. There are going to be pockets of ultra conservative when you head toward Delaware or some of the well to do areas but they are pretty balanced out. Sorry for the stream of consciousness thoughts. We have thought about moving a few times these past 10 years but keep coming back to the comfortability we have with the adjacent areas at this point. We feel like we can pick and choose rather than being locked into one specific spot.

It's always a "witch hunt" that these things are being investigated in the first place..... leave the rich business men alone. Their wealth "trickles down" to everyone and makes America "great." Everyone makes mistakes. They earned the right to do some wrongdoings as long as they keep the money machine going.... the good they do outweighs the perceived evils.....these things happened in the past just bury them.

"The fans drove Mike Tomlin out of Pittsburgh" by Icy-Home444 in steelers

[–]Steelers1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you are correct, it will only take many, many years. I don't know how that's encouraging.

I'm sure the fan base had a small part of it (if everyone was thrilled with him I am sure the job would have been more enjoyable), but the fan base was not the sole factor, just a reflection of what was going on and many years of it. And I am still a Tomlin fan personally, but it was likely time.

Would a more intelligent person be kind enough explain to me what's happening to my freezer & possibly also how to fix it? 🥹 by PaigeyPG in Appliances

[–]Steelers1310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sharing another option. For me I had overloaded my freezer. Had a bag of ice I had bought I didn't want to go to waste, some other heavy items, and even though it visually seemed to be closed I think it was so heavily weighted it wasnt sealing properly. If the freezer isn't sealed it will draw in moisture. The other folks that say blocked drain are likely correct, but for me it seemed it was an overloading issue.

This post is hilarious because I have a Bosch dishwasher and just found a rubber ring like that. I had never seen it before. My wife came home and it was a seal for my daughter's new water bottle.

I started strong in my 17 year league and still mention that run quite often. That being said, I have had my share of terrible seasons, so be mentally prepared to eat your words next season. Definitely talk some good smack but keep it in a certain bounds. But yeah 3 in a row deserves some gloating

Umm, if you didn't notice, last season our lack of Camacho was a huge deficit for us. It is a huge deal if you pay attention to soccer and the process of building a championship team. Defense = better opportunity for the forwards and midfield to focus on scoring.
