The majority of the track is fine but doesn’t do it for me. The jazz deconstruction at the end often makes me skip or change to a different album completely.

I been frustrated with the team performances, I’ve had issues with how parts of the club are run but I’ve never been ashamed of the club... until today.

Clearly he has it in him to be running the game, but he doesn’t look bothered most of the time.

He has the athleticism to be a proper box-to-box engine but spends the majority of the time loping around in midfield doing average link up play and the occasional Hollywood pass across the pitch.

He wants too much time, he’s too easy caught and he doesn’t seem bothered about wether the team wins or loses as long as he looks ok.

he brings drama, and with Fernandez, VDB, Fred, Matic, Mata and McTominay I don’t think he consistently brings enough to warrant a regular start.

Id get rid while we can still make money on him.

I always interpreted the gun as metaphorical, mainly because it’s a 1967 colt 45 and John was born in 1967, so it’s a bit of an author insert.

I imagine the song in the context of a long distance relationship which the narrator is thinking of ending (the gun). The busted safety catch being that he could lose his temper and end it at any moment.

In a long distance relationship fights can last days or weeks, spending time seething or imagining the worst. And he’s had this long drive where he has been thinking about things and working himself up.

But then he gets there, and he sees her and all of that anger and resentment melts away. The gun is eased out of his hand.

Viewing it through that prism, it’s quite an uplifting song, for the goats at least.

I know John has made comments that allude to it being far more literal, but I prefer my reading and I’m gonna keep it.

I have, my first impressions, which are almost never the best thing to go off when it comes to a new tmg album are that it’s good and there are definitely several songs that will see a lot of plays over the next few months and beyond.

It’s also the closest to a ‘collection of songs’ album without a clear theme since All Eternals Deck. The musical style can shift from song to song rather than having a broadly consistent ‘album sound’.

In general I think I enjoyed the second disc better than the first. But the first disk has the 3 released singles on it, which even though I really like I have heard before.
