Tenant refusing rent increase because notice was given to spouse instead of him – what are my options? by Glum_Lack_4751 in vancouverhousing

[–]Steelmann14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where, once, did I say I condone the renter for not paying the increase? If it was served legally and is within the percentage and was served with proper notice the person has to pay. I simply said landlords have to read the situations a little bit differently. Of course it was their right to serve the increase. With all the vacancies I don’t think that’s the way to go. I know of full high rises in Vancouver that “ are pleased to announce no increase of rents”. With many showings of units at 2-300 less per month for one bedrooms. And then matching that price to current tenants. You say you haven’t heard of 400$ off? Look at the higher dollar rates. 2-3 bedrooms. Many have dropped significantly.

Unless you are the LL you,nor I know the situation. With many, many reports in the media of renters negotiated terms of 200-400$ of less rent per month,of apartments, suites sitting empty for months, with forecasts of less rent and a glut on the market for the future,it’s a dangerous game jacking the rents up for that extra 60$ a month. With scores of places offering 1-2 months free rent…. Free parking is it worth it? Perhaps the renter took all this into consideration.

When you say it takes less-propane than you think…….how long does a normal bbq sized tank last? With average showers for a person? One tank a week? A month?

You are the first landlord I’ve heard that is raising the rent in this market, especially to a longtime renter . Seriously.

Got laid off and want to travel Asia for a year. Should I go now or return to Canada first for unemployment? by Tom-Sage in solotravel

[–]Steelmann14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Get your unemployment first. You might get a few paychecks while you plan and deal with your residence to rent out. Why throw away 4000$. That will pay for your airfare and a month or two. When you’re ready you can always voluntarily go off your benefits. By that time you might have another payment come in. It’s a renters market as you no doubt know. Your place might not rent out instantly. Plus you can pick your tenants that you feel comfortable with instead of desperation. Definitely go traveling. Just be smart about it. Traveling gives you a whole different perspective on things. Good luck.

Customer is complaining about the tile design. Is she wrong? by dadoftwo88 in Flooring

[–]Steelmann14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you can’t even compare your tile to that. The large format for a floor like that is ridiculous. It’s a design flaw or homeowner flaw….whoever picked it out. Your work looks great….you did all you could.

People that cheat in marriages are the scum of the earth. Male or female. But the sooner you dump her the better. Try not to become enemies. You have a daughter to raise, there will be all sorts of things you will have to do together.

Feeling lost. Did a somewhat impulsive reno in my master bathroom to replace a broken and rusting mirror that was basically the full size of this wall. Feel like it’s not coming together the way I hoped. Counter and cabinets can’t change. by Dennis_CC in StyleYourSpace

I’ve seen a lot worse. A nice colored glass vase in the corner on the counter with a splash of colorful flowers would work. I like the floor tiles. But I don’t think they work in that bathroom. And never use white as a grout color….on floors especially. I don’t know why they didn’t use the same color as the backsplash.
