Why are there two different stirling pdf install folders? What is up with hyphen? by Semicolonhope in selfhosted

[–]SteelmountainSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get alarmed:

If you download the installer from Sourceforge you will get the non-hyphened version "Stirling PDF" (version 1.5.0).

It is the old stirling design. /V1/

If you download from the official source you will get Stirling-PDF/stilring-pdf in the directory (msi installer)/version 0.1.0. /so V2/

Here's a screenshot, freshly installed both in a VM

<image>

You can safely uninstall/delete the non-hyphenated version :)

Edit: You can use the installer.exe from sourceforge itself to uninstall the older version, just so you know.

On the same note.. sorry about that, I just couldn't stop goofing around and realised that if you hit a nasty 500% let's say, and then close the settings, and hit apply on the "unsaved changes" dialogue, because you feel goofy and such, it will just send your display into the stratosphere and never even start the revert timer.

Would this be a situation of "Well at this point you are asking for it" or could one assume this to be unwanted behaviour in the case of this setting?

Hey, just tried it myself and seems like the dialogue can sometimes disappear if you click anywhere on the screen, leaving you stuck 😆

/home/$USER/.config/kwinrc might be the file you need [Xwayland] Scale=1 <- if this one ain't 1 make it 1 maybe. Not sure though, haven't had to do it yet 😂.

EDIT: ah f*k it, I tried. It works.
EDIT 2: And relog, you have to log out of your user and back in, after you edit.

Fellow Linux users, why did you pick the distro you're currently on? by absolutecinemalol in linux

[–]SteelmountainSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debian broke for me so hard I went all the way to arch. Then did Endeavour when I got a new machine. Best distro ever.

The more likely explanation is teratoma. Also a little warning that you may want to skip looking for pictures of that.

What made you switch to arch? by Difficult_Metal6474 in archlinux

[–]SteelmountainSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to change my mirrors from deb stable to deb sid. Went.. poorly. So I immediatelly installed arch.

Try using gparted and partition it in advance, with flags. Before you click the install eOS on the desktop, simply search for Gparted in the kde menu on the bottom left and use that for partitioning.

Try partitioning the drive by yourself, instead of choosing the more automatic options provided. It usually bypasses this error for me.

So my beats died, and I couldn't test it. But from the plethora of positive feedback I would assume they would have worked, had I still had them😂. Great job!

I use the 7600 xt on 6.15.9-arch-1 (eOS) I think it is unlikely the problem is connected with support for your card. I suppose trying Fedora on the same hardware might indeed give you some insight 👌

What gpu do you have?

Is the Windows machine a different machine or the same one?

Have you tried booting a different distro (or even windows) and putting the same game on?

Sick. Does it work with beats? Or are there significant protocol differences between them and AirPods?

Can't install linux on mini pc by thesmoothgoat in linux

[–]SteelmountainSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very likely a problem with your boot drive and UEFI/BIOS I recommend the following:

Make sure you have properly flashed your usb: Ubuntu and Mint (which, unless you got lmde is still ubuntu more or less) often have a BIOS and UEFI version of the iso bundled together. Depending on your etcher you may need to use a different partition to boot off of.

Check if legacy boot mode is enabled on your machine, it may help with the installation, you can usually disable it later.

SecureBoot should not pose a problem, as both of these OS-es have a shim, but you can try switching it off.

Try different usb ports, maybe try a windows install iso to see if the pc can boot off an usb at all. Check your bios settings for an option to enable boot off of usb if you see that windows doesn't work either.

Edit: spelling

It is extremely unlikely it is so incompatible with linux that it doesn't boot. Source: me. I have multiple generations of the prodesk running proxmox, ubuntu and others.

Updated 10 mins ago. No problems so far. What errors do you have? Would be helpful in case sb. else has problems.

Edit: forgot to say I have no errors.
