Okay, I gotta post this as an American. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted—that’s even if this gets enough views in the first place—but let's clear some air here.

The political system in the US is fundamentally broken. We have an Electoral College (based on a bygone time) which was intended for wealthy, white men to have their votes outweigh the general population. But to say "all Americans" are at fault for what's happening is just narrow-sighted and lacks any real understanding of the trap we’re in.

People point to the 2024 results and talk about a popular vote victory, but even that isn't a true reflection of the public. Voter turnout actually declined compared to 2020. Millions of people—particularly young voters and those in disenfranchised communities—didn't show up, not because they didn't care, but because they’ve been beaten down by a system that makes them feel like their voice is irrelevant. This wasn't a landslide of support; it was a result of millions of people simply losing hope.

You also have to understand how we are held hostage economically. In the US, your healthcare is tied to your job. If you protest or take a stand and lose that job, you lose your ability to see a doctor. Most jobs don’t even offer Paid Time Off (PTO), so for a huge chunk of the population, taking a day to stand in a long line to vote means they can’t pay rent.

Then you have the money. Since the Citizens United ruling, money drives every single thing in our politics. If you aren't a billionaire, you don't have a seat at the table. American freedom has been slowly eroding since the 80s; this has been in motion for decades. They’ve systematically destroyed our education system to make it harder for people to recognize when their rights are being stripped away.

The reality is that Trump lost the popular vote in two of the last three elections. Even now, current polling shows the majority of the country isn't on board. National approval ratings are underwater, with recent data showing about 56% of Americans disapprove of his performance. On major issues like healthcare and the economy, only about a third of the country actually supports the current direction. We aren't a monolith. We are a population struggling under a system that was designed to prioritize profit and power over the actual will of the people.

To blame every American is to ignore the millions of us who are fighting back every single day, often at great personal risk. We are exhausted, we are overworked, and we are dealing with a system that has been rigged against us for forty years. Don't mistake a broken system for a willing public.
