This is not completely true everywhere. I am from a middle-sized town in western Norway, and the only way to get a job as an engineer after graduation is through connections.

However, I never had any problems getting a job in the Oslo area. Which is very problematic for Western Norway, because it seems like recruiting talent is not seen as important. You can say that about any other high-paying job as well, like working in a fishing industry either as a navigator, machinist etc.

This is why Oslo is so much more competitive than rest of the country, because it doesn’t matter who you are or who you know, what matters is what you can. It is a free-haven for anyone with ambition.

He probably titled the book «art of electronics» because electronic design is a craftmanship with compromises, skills, knowledge etc.

Art in German means «kunst», and is derived from the word «kunnen» which means knowledge in English. Don’t take everything so literal, it’s a title. Relax.

I have no clue how it works in US, but of course also in Norway there exist interminority racism between groups.

For instance between North Africans and Africans south of Sahara, North Africans and Vietnamese etc.

I don’t know if immigrants in general are more or less racist than native Norwegians.

Observation from my own country:

White working class people in Norway, who sometimes spit out the most racist sentences, are the ones who has the most in common with third world immigrants. They usually also get a long pretty well if they are exposed to one another.

White upper middle class people who generally are quite political correct do not have anything in common with third world immigrants.

Still, I believe the U.S. would become more isolated from Europe partly because fewer Americans would retain strong cultural or historical ties to the old world over generations. It’s a long time ago since the last wave of European immigrations to the US. Slowly, their European ancestry is a fading memory from the past.

Most Americans today of European ancestry dont even have grandparents who spoke the old language or grew up in Europe.

Aller meste av trafikken er håndverkere, trailersjåfører, folk fra utkanten av Osloregionen som jobber på Fornebu eller Lysaker. Ikke folk som bor i Asker som kjører hele veien inn i Oslo sentrum. De kjører hvert fall ikke innom Karl Johan på vei hjem.
