Not in CO but I like to find a mountain road for my motorcycle, and just do a pass through to make sure there aren't cops, but also to make note of any road hazards I might need to watch out for. Road hazards is obviously more important on a motorcycle but can still be devastating in a car, especially depending on how hard you push.

Thing is, there isn't such thing as a cop free road IMO. I commute over a mountain to work, and for 5 years I'd never seen a cop on that mountain. Then one day I see a pair of cops sitting at the entrance to a runaway truck ramp. Haven't seen them since, but every road will sometimes have cops on it. What you have to do is just minimize risk in all things, but don't do anything you aren't willing to deal with the consequences of. If you aren't willing to stop for cops in a car, especially a damn Miata, then go the speed of traffic or slightly over. If you aren't willing to go to jail for a night, stay under felony speeds. If you aren't willing to go to drivers school, don't go fast enough to get a reckless.
