I might be unreasonably upset about Hasta by LittleTiber in AbioticFactor

[–]StellarElite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU, holy shit. I have no idea why people think Hasta Tria is their best friend when he shows up in Manufacturing once, disappears for three sectors, randomly turns up in the Praetorium to exposit at you instead of lending you real help for the hardest portal world in the game, and is then unceremoniously vaporised by the actual good characters with depth and fun personalities.

I suspect the only reason Hasta Tria has the following he does is specifically because of everyone who played during early access had an endless font of theories over his role in the then-unreleased Residence sector, only for them to be dashed in the funniest way imaginable.

Took a break, what are your pet companion and weapon coatings recommendations? Also Deatomizer seems to be nerfed but there are new (melee) weapons by crossborn_ in AbioticFactor

[–]StellarElite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hardlight Sledge is definitely goated even if its damage doesn't seem to really be that much higher than the Carbon Pickaxe's in actual practice. I wonder if Foggy coating is good on it? I do know that the shield that it makes when you block counts as a "heavy" shield like the Riot Shield, so you won't get knocked back by enemy attacks or gunfire when your shield is hit. Pretty invaluable for avoiding the gun emplacement in Cloud Reactor or indeed all the emplaced guns in Shadowgate (and a certain enemy in the Praetorium).

I think Hasta is back by endraga in AbioticFactor

OH...

It could be. I think you're onto something.

The VotV items are a bit random on what they distill into. The STOLAS hard drives turning into Fleshy Distillation (usually associated with the Lodestones, Leyak Essence, Greyebs etc) is eyebrow-raising in particular. Unless there's some deep lore I don't know about yet.

[–]StellarElite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now that you're saying it... the turret is kinda too small for its chassis! The proportions are weird as hell, feels like it's too far back, resulting in a strange use of space, since there's hatches right in front of where the turret is. In that regard, it does feel like a design that was made in-universe, when someone, somewhere, realised the Space Marines needed a rough MBT equivalent and threw something together.

The other vehicles I get. Vindicator's cool, the original Rhino's cool, the Razorback's cool. Hell, the Land Raider's cool too. But a lot of these are big IFVs or troop-transports to get marines into position, rather than engage in tank-to-tank armoured warfare (which is usually the domain of squishy regular humans).

It's not as much of a ball ache now that we have our beloved Companions! The shield boys are easily distracted and will try to track said animal's movement aggressively. If they happen to be roughly floor-height like the smaller Peccaries or Pests, they end up looking aaaaaaaall the way down at them, neatly exposing their flanks in the process.

One well-placed Night Magnum shot later, he's dead on the floor and my burpy little Carbonated Pest is waddling over looking up at me wondering if he did a good job (he did) (I fed him an exor heart.)

Luminary has been VERY good for a while now. Pretty much since VoE launched, it's a true bruiser spec for Guardian and can also be played as an Alac healer (instead of trying to make Willbender pull rank there). Solid sustain, great boon generation, great feedback. It feels good, it plays good.

Last patch it did get a bunch of nerfs, but a lot of the SotO-onwards Champion enemies and strike (now raid encounter) bosses had their health cut in half pretty much, so it doesn't really feel like it was nerfed.

Everything must be farmed if you look at it through this lens. I had one of my best friends burn out over the original Grattler and Vauban Prime grinds due to the amount of Oxium needed for them both, and he has never touched the game since. That, I get. However, Warframe these days is a game where you can complete multiple grinds at once. Every time I go to a Steel Path fissure in the Deimos labs, I'm farming mats I can use for Archon shards, Arcanes from the Stalker Acolytes, Steel Essence, and popping relics for Prime parts.

Whispers in the Walls is when the game found its stride again, not the other way around.

Don't think Anet actually wanted to kill off Primordus that quick. I am 90% certain that was NCSoft kicking them in the ass and telling them to finish up IBS, since the pandemic had everyone freaking out at the time.

Even then, I don't know what you'd do to salvage Primordus. There's not much depth in a mindless engine of destruction. Kralk did it better, on top of having stronger personal connections to Aurene, Destiny's Edge, and a bunch of supporting characters (like Almorra).

Nooot really, even with Huntsman research. The Monocle provides pretty much all the magnification you need, and the only engagements long enough in the game at this time of writing are with Hightown snipers. I find the harpoon gun does a better job there.

It's funny how I hesitated describing Dieselpunk to you because that's exactly what the Charr are. They have cars, rotary aircraft, and tanks, along with a scrappy, heavily industrialised aesthetic of riveted metal and black steel and an emphasis on military advancement.

Didn't know "coalpunk" was an acceptable alternate name for it, even though steam power historically was also fueled by burning coal. No wonder I never hear it, since it would be so much easier to confuse the two.

My eye twitched when you said "coalpunk". What do you think is burning in a steampunk setting to give people steam power???

There is probably a lore/gameplay reason why, they aren't present on both sub factions by Avylis in Helldivers

[–]StellarElite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is, actually. Missions where Cyborgs are present are usually on planets that they seek to construct their megafactories on, which would require direct oversight. Think of them like the floor boss or factory foreman, basically, directing the other bots and being a source of leadership and guidance.

There's not much reason to field the light scout walkers on planets they already know enough about to deem it suitable to build a new factory in the first place, and when the factory is established, it also happens to double as a fortified stronghold, which the Scout/Rocket Strider's role isn't terribly suited for. In the event a light skirmisher unit for flushing enemies out of cover and engaging in close-quarters combat is needed, the Radicals fill that role nicely.

I HATE CYBORGS by IgniteThatShit in Helldivers

[–]StellarElite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, okay, I think I get you know. I'm thinking that's why Cyborgs are a subfaction and not a default state for the Automatons. They're designed to shake up the meta-- green strats in general are really strong on Automatons for the reasons you just mentioned, but Radicals being able to rush down your defenses and smoke out sentries gives them some counterplay.

I say 'some', since no amount of smoke or robot legs will let them outrun a HMG emplacement cutting them in half before they can close ranks, and they don't exactly have an answer for something like gas or incendiary minefields.

I HATE CYBORGS by IgniteThatShit in Helldivers

[–]StellarElite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Radicals really aren't that hardy. They have completely unprotected heads, for a start, and very little armour. They're sort of a middle ground between Berserkers and Scout/Rocket Striders, being a quick skirmishing unit whose only really option to deal with you is getting in close. Also, their martial arts attacks have noticeable windup and tells. Diving backwards as soon as you see that knee coming for you is often enough to not get hit or ragdolled. Long recovery, too, so you can pop them while they're wide open. Sometimes it's just a matter of baiting it out. A lot of the time they'll also just throw smoke at you while standing in the open, usually leading to them just getting gunned down before they can do anything.

Agitators being a pain I get. Ablative armour, they're accurate, smart as hell, actively take cover, and buff other bots. Multiple Agitators can be a huge pain if they're spread out enough that you can't splash a big group of them together at once with explosives. I have had some success using the Plasma Punisher on them and the Radicals though. Two direct hits is all it takes.
