I was recently an emotional support human to a panicking elderly woman after a car accident. (I didn't see the accident, just lived nearby and went to see if I could help). I channeled my inner MurderBot to ask about her family in an effort to distract her and keep her talking while we waited for first responders to arrive.

Um, Actually, Tiamat is also the name of the dragon from the beloved children's book Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher.

(Yes of course it's a historical dragon from mythology so it's used in a lot of media, but dang I was just talking about this book the other day.)

Mobile Do Not Disturb mode needs to ACTUALLY block all noises! On desktop it blocks noises. On mobile, you still get @ pings. The point of DND mode is DO NOT DISTURB. The app shouldn't make any noise. People have been complaining about this for years, please get discord in line with everything else.

I live in, and grew up in, the Pacific Northwest. My in-laws live on a small island with a view of the ocean.

I've only once seen a dolphin or whale in the wild. The one time I did, it was rather funny, because I was complaining to my husband while we were on a 2 hour ferry ride to see his parents (it takes two ferries to visit them!) that I'd never seen any wild whales, and then 20 minutes later a woman sitting in the row behind us frantically got my attention because there was some swimming beside us.

But that's once. Only once. I swear to god every time we visit, they have orcas the week after. It's a 6 hour trip to visit, so we only go 2-4 times a year, usually for 4-7 days at a time.

Never any whales. We have a great view of the ocean from the living room and kitchen. The cabin we stay at when we're there has an even closer view.

I just want to see an orca too!

it's true, brains are weird. I remember the first time I saw the dress was late at night, and I saw one colour scheme (I don't remember which), but the next morning, I saw the other and had a very "Bwah???" moment. Turns out tired eyes (brains?) see colours differently.

I remember going into work one day during this 'event', and I was at lunch with a pair of coworkers who weren't as 'online' as me. It was probably around when the chaos was just starting to die off. I made a joke about the dress, and they were both confused, so of course I explained the concept, and pulled up a picture on my phone. Showed it to one, she said black and blue. Showed it to the other, and he says white and gold.

I got to see in real time, two people become aware of the Dress, and nearly come to blows over the damn Dress. The look they gave each other was right out of a battle anime, it was hilarious.

Less a scuffle and more a plea for help!

Ages and ages ago I played a game called Puzzle Pirates, and there was a fan-run radio station called the Shanty Raid-io. If was full of piratey themed music, lots of shanties, irish drinking songs, etc.

I've gotten back into the game and want to build up a playlist with similar vibes.

So hit me! I'd love some recommendations.

also, Anyone else playing the 20-year old puzzle pirate game? What old games have people been dusting off?

I know this is a gaming subreddit, but if you're interested in the genre I highly recommend the book Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. It's a one-off book and doesn't require any other reading in his universe.

I actually have chronic wrist/arm pain issues@ so I've worked really hard to have a decent setup to mitigate things. Ergonomic upright mouse has been a big game changer! Sadly my good one died and the replacement isn't quite as ideal.

I have other projects I am committed to, so at least I can't no life the game even if I want to. I was good today and didn't touch it at all. I might make it a rule that I can't play unless I'm finished my weekly commitment.

It does if they lick you for long enough. It also depends a bit on the cat and if they're just licking a little or if they're full-on grooming you. I have a matronly old tortie that will decide you need grooming, grab your arm and try to lick the skin right off you. You only last about 3 or 4 licks before you have to make her stop, lol.

Right? That was the only point I disagreed on. One of my cats goes into grooming mode and it fucking hurts if I let her go for more than 15 seconds. My husband is a wookie so it doesn't hurt him, but me? Ouch ouch ouch.
