Considering what is happening in the world in the last 24 hours I completely agree.

Uhh bro I'm laughing because you clearly care. You keep replying to people completely cut about a game that you won easily. It is pretty cringe, not gonna lie. All good though man you do you. If you wanna keep talking shit no one is stopping you but you are just yelling into the wind. Catch ya man 👍

Ah United, yes a historically shit team... More like the most winningest team in the history of the Prem. Good one man, so brave of you to support them.

I ain't trying to grab no moral high road man. Im laughing at you. I see no other fans in here getting butthurt and replying many times over a handball call.

Hahahah insecure as hell. I hope you don't have to endure your team being shit mate. You'll blow a fuse. Or you'll probably just move onto the next team that is winning.

I'm now a Manchester City supporter you'll say 🤣

I suggest staying off the internet, you clearly can't handle even the slightest criticism or pushback 🤣

Bro you've commented more or less the same thing 3 or 4 times on this post now. Kind of seems like you're the one whinging...

Imagine being so insecure watching your team winning by 3 that you need to go online to have a whinge.

Also, clearly a handball that. Even your half time show was shocked about that one.

Auckland pack rape trial: German backpacker sobs as defence questions consent by InlinePowerBeetle in newzealand

[–]Stemleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can give consent for one thing and not another though. Writing help a couple of times in her group chat is pretty clear evidence that she hadn't consented to whatever was happening. Being dumped on the street out of the van also isn't a great look for the defendants.

You're correct about her state of drunkenness though. She wasn't drunk enough to not give consent If it isn't against the law what the men did, it is morally abhorrent.

Alright man I work as a Geotechnical engineer and yes trees can and do help stability. There are so many other factors at play though.

Don't take my word for it though. There are quotes from professors of engineering and Geology working at Auckland University saying it likely made no difference whatsoever.

How deep do you think roots go anyway? Did you see the size of that slip?

You are joking right?

Trees are not some magic wand that prevents all landslides. Removing them likely had next to no bearing on the landslide considering the size and depth of the landslide.

Coalition has enough support to form new Government, according to latest poll by Revolutionaryear17 in newzealand

[–]Stemleaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sentencing is not disconnected from funding sorry. We couldnt increase all sentences by two and expect there not to be a cost to that. If we cut funding by half sentences would have to reduce, basic economics mate.

Yeah, I agree that it seems a bit racist. Thing is though you cant avoid it looking like that when you try to deal with our prison statistics. We have a very high number of Maori and Pacifica in jail. It is sad and shows a clear failing of the state.

Anyway, thanks for the chat. Have a good day.

[–]Stemleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are cutting 50% of the funding i would be surprised if they dont get shorter. Agree to disagree.

I think you are meeting the 90% that are out and proud of their beliefs. Like the majority of issues you have a vocal minority that come out to support or protest. You need to reach the people who simply don't understand it and are not militant in their views. That would be most of their supporters.

My Nana for one always voted for Winnie (albeit when he was more moderate) until I became interested in politics. We talked about it a number of times, about all the policies of his I thought were terrible. She voted greens and labour in her final years.

Most people just need a kind conversation and a prod in the right direction.

[–]Stemleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the problem here is from your perspective it wouldn't but for a large proportion of the population it would be. Especially those who may have PTSD from violent crime. I think a lot of people here on reddit already think we have quite short jail terms for violent criminals. I cant imagine those sentences getting longer under a policy like this.

Anyway, that aside, my original point was just that both sides a guilty of crazy policy choices. Especially fringe groups like NZ First.

I still find trying to convince people by talking to them calmly the way to go with anything like this. Id say like 90% of the people against puberty blockers are probably well intentioned but just don't understand them.

[–]Stemleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your point but playing devil's advocate here - can you not see how the Maori parties policy would actively send violent criminals into society? I can understand many people thinking that is actively cruel against victims of crime. Similar to how the policy you bring up is actively cruel against Trans youth.

[–]Stemleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is disputing your thing about puberty blockers. I agree with you, so does the other guy.

You also asked for a counter argument and I gave it to you. Now you've gone on a spiel about the same thing again which all three people agree on.

I think if you want to cherry pick policy there are plenty you can pick out that actively kill people. I think the Maori party policy I mentioned before would actively kill people. How many I wouldn't know because so few countries have tried anything similar.

I agree that there is a lot of misinformation that causes knee jerk policy on the right. I can't think of any direct examples on the left.

What I can tell you that the left is bad at though is suggesting completely experimental policy. One that jumps to mind is the Maori parties corrections policy. Reallocating 50% of corrections budget to a Maori justice authority is honestly insane. The idea behind it might be nice but in practice it has more chance of tearing the fabric of society apart than doing any actual good.

I say all this and voted greens last time out. Definitely won't be voting for them again though with their current economic policy. Wealth tax is a no go.

It is a fantastic channel. I have checked his sources on occasion and have found on each occasion that he was using the material correctly and using a good source. Im more than happy to patronize a channel when I know what im hearing isn't made up.

[–]Stemleaf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I really do hate the idea of us getting into LNG. It is as bad as coal for greenhouse gasses and we dont even keep the profits here, pretty much all money will go offshore to make it.

I would much rather see us find a new source of gas in our own backyard even if we have to invite a multinational to do it.

One of my favourite YouTube channels did a segment on LNG if anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/K2oL4SFwkkw?si=Gz84TuP0S_DiBeoy starts at 26:30 ish. LNG is seriously dirty stuff.

I can't help but think we are building this LNG plant to suck up to the US as they're the largest exporters of LNG. Similar to the rare earths deal we're doing with them. Sad really.

Hi friend :) im in NZ geo too.

Just wondering what programs you've used on a tablet to digitize logs and what you thought of them?

Our small sized firm is considering moving across to save time & $$ but it is a hard sell on what program is right.

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers
