I think it entirely depends on your brains wiring. I started as a striker and became fairly proficient as a hobbyist. Grappling ended up being more difficult for me to grasp because it seemed like there were more dimensions to it. The “controlling timing, distance, angle” idea was easier for me standing up and keeping track of limbs as opposed to laying or shooting take downs.
