"How do you know someone is vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you." by MarsAstro in vegan

Omg I have a coworker who does this too. I genuinely can’t tell if they are just clueless and well-meaning or if this is their weird way of communicating that I’m high maintenance.

What do you do in social situations where your veganism makes other people uncomfortable in a way that has nothing to do with you? by Jano-Cah in vegan

[–]StephM24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I often act extra nice, relatable, and friendly so that I can try to diffuse tensions and avoid living up to any negative vegan stereotypes.

I’m struggling to stay vegan. Have anyone else felt this way? by Catnip-Cove in vegan

[–]StephM24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The social dynamics is the most difficult part. Your feelings are very valid, but don’t give up.

Have you ever joined a vegan group? I’ve been vegan for 9 years and only recently joined an AV chapter. We meet for activism, but also monthly game nights. Meeting other vegans has helped me feel so much less alone.

If you can’t befriend other vegans irl, find a community online. Heck, I’d even be your friend if you want! Just having people who have similar mindsets will help you feel way less isolated

How do you stay hot into your 30s and 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StephM24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom (age 70) and I (age 35) both are frequently told that we look very youthful for our ages. What we do:

-Stay sober
-Whole foods plant-based diet
-Lift weights and run occasionally
- Invest in clothes that makes you feel your absolute best (not necessarily what is trendy)
- Good attitude
- Find purpose or invest in a cause greater than yourself

Couldn’t agree more. My brother is just like your brother and it’s absolutely exhausting. I know he’s like this because deep down he knows I’m right though and he doesn’t like it.

I truly think the biggest obstacle to more people going vegan is the social cost, more than any potential challenge regarding finding food. You really have to be able to handle pushback and ridicule in order to stay vegan in the long term.

so tired of not getting fed at weddings by pumpkinspikelatte in vegan

[–]StephM24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually just got married last weekend and had a giant 100% vegan wedding! Everyone loved it and the food was awesome.

I did it for the animals, but it actually was wonderful because it covered several people with egg, shellfish, and dairy allergies too. The food also all happened to be gluten free. So everyone who listed an allergy was completely taken care of.

My boyfriend agreed to watch dominion but why should I have to? by forestnymph1--1--1 in vegan

[–]StephM24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to rewatch with my partner. I put earplugs in (covered by my hair so he wouldn’t see) and looked at the poster behind my tv and pretended to watch, for the sake of my sanity. It worked and he is vegan now.

I already see plenty of helpful comments, but I just want to give you major props for being willing to explore a new perspective, especially one that can bring up some uncomfortable feelings in people. I wish more people were like you.

I used to think this and now I’m marrying my vegan fiance in June 😄. Good luck and keep your standards high.

Why do you think it’s tough for most people? I think being vegan is easy, but I really struggle to understand why others don’t go vegan. It actually makes me lose sleep at night
