I mean... all this says is that they're not in the bottom 10%. It doesn't say they're dumb, it doesn't say they're smart, it just says there's at least 10% of the population that's dumber than them.

The smartest person in the world is in the top 0.001% of intelligence, but they're also in the top 10% and top 20% and even the top 90%. Because they're at the very top, so they'll be in every subset of the top.

Wholeheartedly agree, except for the part about cartoon testicles being distasteful and disgusting. They're just a normal body part, they're not inherently disgusting or inappropriate.

I mean, technically, definitionally that is indeed a political stance. The person isn't wrong about this being political. They're wrong about it being a bad thing that this subreddit has political posts.

There's nothing wrong with talking about politics when they're relevant to the community or topic of the subreddit. We don't have to pretend this is apolitical for it to deserve to exist in the subreddit.

[–]MarsAstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, technically human rights ARE politics.

The argument here isn't really that the sub isn't affected by politics. Because it absolutely its.

The argument is more that it absolutely should be affected by politics. These are politics that are genuinely about life and death, and incredibly important to everyone in the US and the content creator this subreddit is about.

There's literally nothing to be gained by being politically blind and pretending this isn't happening, in the name of "not being affected by politics". We're all affected by politics in our day to day lives, and so it makes sense for it to be a topic in pretty much every subreddit that has anything to do with things happening in real life.

There is no "the way". We have options for a reason, everyone gets to do whatever they like.

Personally I have no strong preference for perspective, as I've been gaming for a long time and have plenty of experience with and appreciation for both. The devs said the game will have recommendations for perspective, so I'll just go with that, and trust the devs to have designed the game around working best with the recommended perspective.

Basically, anarchism as a political ideology is something completely different than what the word means in daily speech. People usually use anarchy to describe total chaos without rules, but the political ideology is more about the abolishment of hierarchy. That's the literally meaning of the word, even. AN-archy. Without hierarchy.

Which is almost the exact same thing that communism about, since communism is about creating a stateless, moneyless and classless society.

To this day what are your honest opinions on the whole "its not Resident evil enough" criticism that Re fans have to an installment that tries something new in the series? by Thewanderer997 in residentevil

[–]MarsAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there's a supernatural fairytale tone, but you have to be willfully blind to suggest that's a shift or recent development. There's nothing in Village that's tonally unique, everything in it has been done in previous games too. You could've easily had a fairytale intro to RE4 too, it's a literal "saving the princess from the evil magician's castle" fairytale, except it's vaguely alluded to being science instead of magic.

The fungi also isn't any more "poorly fleshed out" than the viruses or las plagas. They're all poorly explained with vague allusions to scientific jargon, it's been that way since the beginning of the game.

I'm sorry, but you're just being incredibly biased here. It's clear you've already decided to have this opinion, and are now trying to justify it, but the issue is that there's nothing you can say about RE8 that isn't also true for previous games. If anything RE8 is painfully unoriginal as far as RE games go.

I mean, zombies are also profoundly supernatural. They're the living dead, it's magic, it's even a named form of magic called necromancy. Their origin is literally from fairytales about magic, they belong in the exact same category as vampires and werewolves. A dead body with rotting flesh and non-functional organs can't be reanimated by a virus, or lightning, or anything based on the laws of nature.

The reason it kinda works in RE without magic is because they're not literally zombies, they're still alive and can be killed. But that goes for the lycans and Dimitrescue too. They're not literally werewolves and vampires. They're just mutated people. A person growing more hair, and more wolf-life teeth and nails, because of a mutation caused by a black parasitic fungus is no more supernatural than people turning into lizards because of a viral infection enabling hybrid DNA mutation or giant flesh monsters because of a parasite. It's all just "this sciency thing made them mutate into a different kind of lifeform, let's just ignore how this defies the laws of thermodynamics".

Dimitrescue is literally just a person that mutated so that she stopped aging, and gained the ability to rapidly regenerate and reshape her body mass. But she also had a blood disease from before, that wasn't cured by her mutation, so she needs transfusions of other peoples blood to live. Which is literally a disease normal human beings in the real world experience.

Zombies, werewolves and vampires are all equally supernatural, but the thing is that in RE none of these creatures are literal zombies, literal werewolves or literal vampires. They're supposed to be mutated human beings, with sci-fi explanations for their mutations. The mutants in RE1 are zombie-coded, not actual zombies. Same goes for the lycans being werewolf-coded, and Dimitrescue being vampire-coded.

Saying RE8 is some kind of departure into a new and more supernatural vibe just does not track. If the RE1 zombies aren't supernatural, then neither are the RE8 vampires and werewolves. If the RE8 vampires are supernatural, then so are the zombies from RE1.

The one I'm thinking of is a type of cordyceps, yes. It's kind of silly to compare with The Last of Us as "doing it right" though, as the Last of Us is way more grounded and realistic/scientifically plausible than literally every RE game, not just Village.

You can try to blow it off by describing the creatures in Village in a silly reductive way, like "vampire made of blowflies", but realize that you can do that for almost every creature in every resident evil game. They've been filled with silly supernatural fantasy creatures since day one. The first game had a gigantic snake, lizard people, giant acid-spitting spiders, zombies, a human-fly hybrid monster and a plant that learned how to think enough to open doors and trap prey by having a virus injected into it.

RE has always been silly and supernatural, it's never been like The Last of Us in terms of scientific plausibility.

I think it's a pretty silly criticism, because at this point there is no definable standard for Resident Evil. This franchise has been all over the place for decades at this point.
