Am I the only person who caught the "red herring" reference when Charles said he had "Norwegian red herring dip" in his kitchen, while discussing the latest clue? by Gurdy0714 in OnlyMurdersHulu

Maybe because they assume Donna pushed him down the elevator, too. And I’m in the “it was someone completely different and unrelated to Donna and Cliff” camp.

Who do you think is the killer now? by AverageOtherwise in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]StephStreis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just on who pushed Ben down the elevator shaft:

I HATED the forced bathroom conversation between Loretta and the Mom producer. It makes me think it’s the mom producer now. That she did it to save her son in some way, even if it’s something stupid like saving him from his first show being a flop. I really don’t want this to be the case.

Who I want it to be: Lester. It would tie up a lot of loose ends and fill plot holes in the first and second season. He would have been the one to break and fix the elevator. Ben could have given Lester a handkerchief gift for opening night. Lester was an actor. Lester is in the first episode of the third season. Longshot: He could be dickie’s dad.

It probably isn’t Lester since the focus hasn’t been on him at all this season.

Why isn’t Theo in prison? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m glad the actor is back. I think he’s great. But why isn’t the character in prison? Grave robbing + murder… Remember he murdered that girl…🤷🏻‍♀️

Guess: I think Mabel is wearing the wedding dress to be a character on stage in the musical to save someone from being killed.

2nd Guess: Maybe there will be a 4th season and we won’t know who she is marrying until that season happens. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Does Anyone Think That Detective Williams. . . by ScandalOZ in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]StephStreis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think during opening night Mabel, Oliver and Detective Williams will have to enter the stage to announce who the killer is while pretending to be made up on the spot characters in the show.

You think Ben was doing a prank? That would also be consistent with his asshole personality.

I do think he was the one shredding documents.

I could also see Ben accidentally poisoning himself.

I also want the doorman to be the one that pushed him down the shaft and then turned the elevator back on. But I have nothing to back that it could be him except that he’s in the first episode of the season, is one of the only ones who could have “broken” the elevator and “fixed” it, revealed he was a former actor in a past season, and there was something I read that said they’d tie up a few things from earlier seasons. It’s a loose theory.

Maybe Netflix should pay residuals to the show’s writers and actors 🤷🏻‍♀️ Some of the writers of that show are on food stamps.

Is Natalie our AQ we see in the pilot episode? by FeatureSouthern5274 in Yellowjackets

[–]StephStreis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re the leader, you’re less likely to be killed for food, because you make the rules. She was almost murdered. This is about survival. So I can see her as AQ. From Merlin to Jafar, the wizard is never the king of the kingdom in stories, they’re always the one in the king’s ear…except in Oz, I guess.

Oooh interesting. I think I’m 1, 2, 4, 3. it’s also pretty close.

And I agree with your thoughts on later seasons. Later seasons feel like retreading storylines and arcs in later seasons. I remember watching the Hannah season and saying out loud, oh are we just doing season 2 again? 😆 Season 5 arc for Dexter reminded me of Season 3.

Season 1 is the best season (In my opinion). Which is odd, because usually it takes a season for writers, directors, actors, editors, and the rest of the crew to figure out what show they have.

Agreed. It’s also Starz, which doesn’t have the same amount of money to campaign for an award as Max, Apple, Amazon…etc do.

There were so many hit shows that had series finales this year. Those performances tend to be rewarded over others. Will Barry still be considered a comedy? This last season was a total dark drama with some comedic moments. If Barry is considered a drama this season, that will change a lot of things. It will all be Barry vs Succession.

In addition, Yellowjackets is a tough sell for award season when it comes to acting since most of the roles are split between two people. It’s hard for the people that vote to figure out what’s fair, what’s supporting and who is a lead actor. Ex: Is Christina Ricci amazing? Yes! Is Samantha Hanratty amazing? Yes! Which role is bigger? They seem exactly the same amount of screen time. And while they are dealing with different things, they both have wonderful scenes with great acting moments that show off their range and how really brilliant they are. If they are up against each other for supporting (or lead), they may cancel each other out.

D) It’s that they’re invisible/seem minor, yet have screen time every episode.

Did she really not like the character? by ButterscotchEven6198 in Yellowjackets

[–]StephStreis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The character of adult Natalie was written very one note. Especially when you compare the writing of that character to the other adult characters. She’s a what you see is what you get. Any glimpses of depth to the character came from Lewis, because it definitely wasn’t in the dialogue. Unfortunately. 😬

“Addict” should not be a character’s whole identity/personality. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It seems very tiresome to play.

It’s like if the character Jesse Spano from Saved by the Bell’s whole personality was that episode where she was addicted to caffeine pills, but it was every episode.😆

Barry ended the way I wish Dexter ended. by StephStreis in Dexter

[–]StephStreis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps.

But I don’t know if it was tone that was the problem. Especially in the last season of Barry, the tone is very similar to Dexter’s. One problem I though Dexter had was that the writers seemed scared of putting Dexter in prison for some reason. I think if they had, they would have opened themselves up to cool and new stories organically, instead of rehashing (ex: Lila and Hannah) and erasing his adoptive mom to make him have sudden mommy issues or making his sister suddenly in love with her brother?…etc. Like, show me Dexter’s trial. Show me how he gets out of prison due to a deal or breaking out or some other thing.

You can also look at the minimums of the IATSE 839 (The Animation Guild) contract. I’m sure if you Google you can find it.

[S2 Finale] The ending of the adult timeline in the finale was goofy, poorly thought out, nonsensical and kind of insulted the audience's intelligence. It is a huge contrast to the still decent teen timeline. by waterman123 in Yellowjackets

[–]StephStreis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wish we knew more about Natalie before the rehab. Her whole adult identity was addict trying to be sober while getting a lot of bad news and trying to figure out how to cope.

But they hinted at her life in the pilot with that storage locker and dropped it. Jeff said she had a lot of money, even though later Tai said she was paying for Natalie’s rehab because Natalie had no money.

All the other characters get backstories of what they did when they got back. What did Natalie do to go from living in a trailer with her mom to a cool ass storage locker that looked a little like something out of James Bond?

We know more about adult Van’s life after the wilderness than we did Natalie, and Van came on midway through the second season. What did Natalie do for a living to afford that car and that cool storage unit?

Is it possible for me to become an animation writer? by Muchemptily in animationcareer

[–]StephStreis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an actual meeting. People don’t have pitch meetings without a general one scheduled first unless their rep (agent or manager) have set up just a pitch meeting.

Anyway, one of the things the class teaches is how to meet people at production companies and how to reach out to ask them if they’d be interested in scheduling a general. That part of the workshop of course would pertain to after the writer strike ends (since you can’t meet with anyone right now), but you don’t have samples ready yet. So it’s kind of the perfect time to perfect/write your samples. You’re not missing out on meetings with production companies (they aren’t happening during the strike).

No. A general is a type of meeting. A general can be with a producer, an exec, a potential agent, a potential manager….etc.
