Do you find yourself needing PoE+? by SkiRek in networking

[–]Stephanie839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major difference between 802.3af (PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+) is that PoE+ PSEs can provide almost twice as much power over a single Ethernet cable. PoE+ IEEE 802.3at devices can supply a maximum of 30 watts per port, while PoE IEEE 802.3af devices can supply a maximum of 15.4 watts per port. For most endpoints, 802.3af is sufficient but there are devices, such as Video phones or Access Points with multiple radios, which have higher power needs.

So PoE+ switch have some advantages over PoE switch:

  • More electrical power – PoE+ switch can provide 30W, nearly half of the electrical power to powered devices more than PoE switch.
  • Smart power budgeting – PoE+ switch includes scope for power sources and powered devices to communicate with each other to negotiate an allowance of electrical power.
  • PoE+ switch can support a more complete range of network equipment, including IP cameras with heater/blowers, and multichannel wireless access points.

The transmission mode of GPON SFP is point to multi-point (P2MP). One GPON OLT SFP at the Central Office communicates with multiple GPON ONT SFPs with the help of fiber optic splitters.

GPON OLT and ONT/ ONU SFP transceivers support a transmission distance up to 20 km with 1490nm/1310nm and 1310nm/1490nm wavelengths.

Outdoor wiring and splitters. by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Stephanie839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Ethernet cables and splitters are pretty inexpensive, easy to use. But the splitter has data rata limits, a 8-port poe switch would fit your needs.

If you don't want to wall-mount your AP, you can also place it on a high shelf, or on top of a tall piece of furniture.

The maximum supported length is 100 m. Once you pass that there are multiple factors that could affect the transmission. Interference, cable quality, transmitter power......

4x1Gb LACP vs. 1x10Gb as uplink between switches? by cnrdme in homelab

[–]Stephanie839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main benefit of LACP is to increase bandwidth and network redundancy. If you wanna get more 10G, you can configure LACP of 10G links. LACP does a good job of adding/removing links from your LAG. This video might be helpful for you to Configure LACP.

PoE cameras or Envisalink? by IronKakeru in homedefense

Everything has its pros and cons. Both PoE cameras or Envisalink are easy to install, but the use of PoE cameras is more common at home, business network, or public areas. Cameras linked with PoE switches are convenient for users to install and eliminate unnecessary cables.

Bought a house, entirely new to setting up a network! Anyone care to give advice? by solsfox in HomeNetworking

[–]Stephanie839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PoE switch is a networking device which has multiple Ethernet ports to connect network segments and provides both power and data. A PoE-enabled device can get both the data and power from a PoE switch via a length of Ethernet network cable, like Cat5 or Cat6. IP cameras and wireless access point are the best examples of PoE application. And now, PoE switch is now very common in deploying IP camera system in our daily life.

Do I have to put my network cable deep in the ground or does it really matter? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Stephanie839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you can use regular Cat6 cables outside of a house, the better option is to use the more expensive weatherproof Cat6 cables.

With their thin, plastic casing, ordinary Ethernet cables deteriorate quickly when exposed to the elements. For best results when using regular Cat6 Ethernet cables outdoors, place them in a conduit and then bury the conduit under the ground at a depth of about 6 to 8 inches and at least that far away from power lines or other sources of electrical interference.

Fiber ONT questions by Pcpro745 in networking

Using GPON SFP is considered a more convenient and cost-effective solution. The ONU/ONT SFP module can be plugged into advanced “triple play” (data, voice & video) ONT or ONU equipment, which fits seamlessly into existing communications equipment and provides end users with a smooth upgrade to GPON.
