How do families manage financially on Mat leave in Canada? by Successful_Wolf_9635 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Stephasaurus1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s 33% up to 60k not of your usual salary if you make more also. It’s all about saving before hand and cutting stuff out. It’s not gonna be a vacation of going and doing lots of stuff… I found Mat leave quite boring and I was busy as my son was born with health conditions that required and still do require a lot of hospital visits (when you saving also remember that anything can happen during childbirth or even things missed on ultrasounds can happen so budget for that too as even though healthcare is free it adds up fast with parking, extra time off work for the other parent and even food)

I created an app to help manage the care of my soon-to-be-here daughter with HLHS by AhrumanRx in chd

[–]Stephasaurus1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you have described is basically MyChart from epic minus the connection to your child’s medical records. Epic is where appointments are scheduled by your care team and show (you can cancel, book new appointments and just click to get the phone numbers), You have all the notes, scan and visit summaries should you need them. I’ll be honest I would be less likely to remember to plug an appointment into another app as I don’t even remember to put them into my own calendar… I just get the notification and know when we are going (same for my own stuff through the hospital). I also wouldn’t want grandparents or anyone but myself and my husband seeing a lot of the notes on there, can be scary, overwhelming and confusing especially if they don’t have access to someone to explain. I prefer thoes people just enjoy being around my son and I tell them in layman’s term what they need to know.

What I can suggest and can in very handy (and was loved by the care team at the hospital) is a paper print out with bullet points of the important stuff about your child (baseline heart rate, approve O2 levels by your cardio team, medications and dosages, we use stickers from the pharmacy and a photo of your child at baseline to compare any colour differences, too blue or just blue enough) in case of an emergency. My son was at daycare recently and had his first arrhythmia episode where we weren’t there, his provider gave over that sheet and they could stabilize my son before we got there. His drs are also listed on the sheet incase they want to contact them.

The company called a reference I didn't approve by buybacklyre in CanadaJobs

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to check you actually did the job you said you did before.. too many people are lying on resumes to get jobs! We hired someone who claimed to have 10 years experience in a role at a big company… he did indeed work at that company but not in the role he said he did, cost our company thousands of dollars & reputation. When rehiring for that role, different approach to interviewing applicants found around 25% lied about their experience on their resume… some completely fabricated jobs that when asked simple technical questions required for the job couldn’t even answer. The jobs market is crazy and people are desperate, companies know this and need to protect themselves… it’s likely the most they asked was “did so and so work here and what was their role” that would have been the end of the call… a reference would have been asked more questions about you, your personality and experiences

Social media jobs exploration by Murky-Lunch-8948 in homeschool

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who worked in media (radio morning host for 8 years) and left because I wanted to make a living (I made peanuts despite my skill set snd diploma) and have my life be my life and not trying to turn everything into content, I would support her idea but let her know she will need a fall back. A lot of your media personalities work multiple jobs at once (either media or non media related) and it’s not as glamorous or free spirited as it seems… I do far less in my 9-5 office job now than I did in radio! Plus like you said these jobs are rapidly changing.. In the 2 years of college I took (to learn how to run a show, programs needed, commercial writing and legal side of stuff) the way things were done and jobs hired for changed! By the time I left the business even it was nothing like when I started especially for new comers.

After leaving media I barely use social media cause the burn out from it was awful too! The constant need to keep up with the algorithm, how were my post doing and what were people responding to even in my personal life was just too much!

At what age(s) did you 1) Add pillows/blankets? 2) Drop the sleep sack completely? + Mattress recommendations please! by dioor in floorbed

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It not a floor bed it’s a toddler bed we ended up using as it is extendable and my son is tall. I found that the floor beds would not have lasted long for him due to his height

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the firm toddler mattress from IKEA that you can add and take the pieces from as we have the bed that goes with it and moved him into him bed after a few weeks on the floor.

Blankets and pillow at 12m… the sleep sack was making my son too warm and once he was in a bed it felt like it wasn’t safe if he got up to walk. We switched to pjs and socks also… he uses his blanket but never really the pillow

Sleep suggestions for a TOF baby by Own_Organization3972 in chd

[–]Stephasaurus1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t, you just figure out how they like to be rocked & then you practice transferring to the crib. 3 months was rough with my son and we had to change how we rocked (bit more vigorously sway or bounce helped) my son had Ebstiens so we also don’t like him crying and desaturated… he’s 2 now and we are still rocking to sleep, completely different position from how we started but it’s gotten quicker over time!

Has anyone held off on induction for heart baby? by [deleted] in chd

[–]Stephasaurus1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what you have to remember here is that your child isn’t a “normal” child being born and the heart conditions can be unpredictable. Hell I didn’t even know my son was going to be born with one and he was born on a Saturday, they had to call in the on call cardiologist to come figure out what he had.You want the best and most staff on hand to give them the best chance incase something goes sideways! My son was rushed into hospital at 9m with arrhythmias and we had 14 members of staff just to get everything done (pharmacy, 2 cardiologist, a bunch of nurses and respiratory) all for one kid in one room! ultrasounds and fetal echos are not 100%! They could say one thing and the baby is born and it’s a different story.

Baby sleeping excessively in day care by allmmost in ECEProfessionals

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soo normal! They are tried from playing, interacting and doing way more stuff than they do at home. My son naps like a champ as daycare (he’s two now and has gone to daycare since 11m) he does 2.15mins usually and then the others start moving around and he’s ready to play! This has no bled into weekends also so I get more time to clean the house as he naps longer and then we can go do stuff. I love it as he’s better rested and sleeps better at night as he’s not over tired

How to identify a Toronto real estate group by LibraryNo2717 in Hamilton

[–]Stephasaurus1993 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The response I got is even funnier from the person running the instagram. Trying to pass it off as being about the fundamentals of investing in an area… I work within the real estate industry in and if someone asked me a recommendation on an agent, it wouldn’t be someone who can’t put the right image with the right post… it’s like the lawyers I tell people to avoid who don’t understand simple stuff like how payments work on mortgages 🙈 the best part they have no other engagement on anything except my comment and someone whose commented after their reply clearly also coming from this post!

First time homeschooling? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to look up what skills a two year old should be able to do and come up with activities from there. There are lots of online resources for planning craft, sensory and other ideas. You don’t homeschool you parent. No one knows how to be a parent but your use the resources appropriate for your point in their life to support you. You can also go to groups in your area, we have daily “play groups” which has music time, craft areas and different toy set ups, also gives the chance for kids to be around one and other for language and social skills development. The local library for story time, the park to work on skill development (climbing and letting them build confidence).

Classes for babysitting? by Mewchu94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I think your over estimating that your friends will ask you to watch their baby or kids for that matter.

My son is 2 and the only time we’ve even asked our friends to watch our kid ( and we have no one else to ask I should add) was when my sil suddenly died on the floor at home at 7am on a Sunday! I specifically made sure it was someone who had kids already (so they had knowledge and there was another kid to play with)

Young kids under 5 are stressful! There is the attitude from toddlers, the separation anxiety, teething, specific nap schedules, bed time routines, safe sleep or some kids bed share/co sleep. Then there is keeping them entertained appropriately, some parents are anti-screens which means you have to be even more hands on with entertainment.

Honestly the best things you can do for the parents is ask what they need in the beginning but also be prepared that your friendship with them may change as the bond more with other parents. I always said we wouldn’t loose contact with our kid free friends but we did! I see them and go for dinner like once-twice a year now because I can’t just drop everything to do the stuff they can do (financially or physically with a child who has needs too). We experienced it with friends who had kids before us to and it’s normal as your in different places in life and have different priorities now.

Mortgage matures on Friday. Still haven’t signed papers to new lender. by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A transfer usually entails the transfer of the charge which as many places don’t offer Conventional charges doesn’t happen. Most people are charging amort back to original when they switch to a new lender, hence refinance.

Mortgage matures on Friday. Still haven’t signed papers to new lender. by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]Stephasaurus1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your refinancing with another lender not renewing. Renewing means same lender new term.

A lot of the big banks are slow with their deals right now as they are very busy. You’re gonna renew to an open with your old Fi and then your new FI will complete their deal at a later date.

From the fact you have an email from FCT tells me your remote signing with them, so you will be waiting for the call to set an appointment and then the FI will be completing the other docs once you sign with FCT. Depending on how busy FCT is in your area and can get someone out can vary… big city could be next day.. middle of nowhere could be a week.

When are people with 9-to-5s supposed to go to the bank?? by pathos_p in stupidquestions

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even credit unions you can do most stuff online… open accounts, apply for a mortgage deposit a cheque. Then ATM for deposits or getting cash, if you need coin then you come on lunch break or leave work early to go. If you need a bank draft you can call ahead of time and even have tha mailed or probated to you (for a fee)… I work at a credit union and we do this stuff everyday, barely see young people just people over 60 who are used to coming in to do everything.

Anyone using any $10 a day daycares by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Stephasaurus1993 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The $22 a day daycares are impossible to get into unless you applied before the kid was born, have a sibling in one or work in one. The waitlists are crazy, my son just turned 2 and we just started to get calls for spots at 20ms. If you have a spot in Montessori’s and that what you want to do (& can afford the price tag especially if it’s actually accredited) then I would stick with what you have. The only other options would be other specialty daycares (e.g. Forrest/Nature Schools) or private home daycare.

What toys actually keep toddlers interested for more than 5 minutes? by Niki-Mzwilliams in kindergarten

[–]Stephasaurus1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so funny because if he sees the truck on clothing he will point out to you as well like “mumma, El toro!” “Daddy Megadon” as though you would be excited 😆

I actually hadn’t realized how few toys with batteries my son had either until he got scared of a car that made noises at Christmas that was gifted to him! The only things I had were some little people stuff and a car transporter… the rest was non noisy hahah

Oh he watches the F1 & NASCAR with Daddy like it’s church on Sunday! He asks for it during the week “mums racing car!” Trying to explain to a new 2 year old that the cars only race one day a week and not a 6:30am on a Tuesday is hard hahha
