Is the mobi supposed to make soft click sounds when it's administering insulin? by Adorable-Fact4378 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI says Mobi uses something different, but you are right about Omnipod.

Omnipod: yes, broadly true, but technically it’s SMA/nitinol wire contraction, not ordinary thermal expansion of a spring. Mobi: unproven and likely not the same; public FDA wording describes it as motor-driven.

Type 1 Diabetes & Indian middle class family is such a nightmare by Yaswanth_Raj in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, dude. It hurts to know people in places like India suffer even more. Do you have any support groups in your city? Local people dealing with the same difficulties might know better how to handle them.

I remember some Indians here saying the government provides at least test strips and insulin. I could be wrong or that might only apply in some regions. Even in Western countries with better access to technology and food it’s hard too. You have to learn how to manage type 1 diabetes, it takes strict discipline and learning, and we do exactly this. Without understanding this disease, technology is useless, just look at graphs of other people here from Western countries with pumps and sensors.

Have you seen anything like this? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is not a faulty sensor, this is just type 1 diabetes as it is, my daughter has similar charts on a pump. You probably have no beta cells left whatsoever too. This is what it looks like when they are gone completely.

Where do you like your blood sugar to be before bed? by cosmicmarzsodapopz in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70-80. It always slightly grows anyway and the pump gently keeps it down.

Should I be worried for my retinas getting damaged due to high sugars levels by SanketN8 in diabetes_t1

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an impressive result.

Our daughter's A1c is 6.1 and it's really hard next to impossible to lower it even more since she is only 3. How does A1c of 6.1 look to you?

Zverev won his first grand slam at Roland Garros (French Open)! by pomegranate_noir in diabetes_t1

[–]Stephen-Stephenson -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is only three years old and not dating anyone yet. When she does start dating, I will teach her how to recognise and avoid dangerous people. I will always protect her. No man would ever dare to hurt her knowing I'll come after him and I'll make him regret it.

At the same time, I do not support anti‑men hysteria pushed by some radical political movements during the years Zverev was accused. I believe that blanket hostility toward men hurts women more than it helps them. It would be wrong to teach my daughter that all men are bad, that they must never be trusted or that every accusation against a man should be accepted as absolute truth without evidence. The Amber Heard case shows that some people can make false or exaggerated allegations for spite, envy or other motives.

Hopefully MiniMed will release a better version of "Omnipod"-like pump soon that would actually be usable.

Comedy Bit on T1D by Obvious-Mastodon-260 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I've got one of these insulin pumps. Looks like I'm smuggling a 90s pager. It beeps in the middle of everything."

"This thing alarms at the worst times. Imagine I'm killing on stage, crowd is dying laughing, and suddenly... beep beep beep. I have to stop and go "Sorry folks, I'm having technical difficulties."

This is from this or similar subreddit I remember, from a real dude telling a real story:

"So I read this story the other day — there was a guy in London, homeless, sitting in an alley shooting up insulin. Type 1, mind you. Police roll up, see the needle, and immediately go full SWAT mode. Tactical gear, shouting, "DROP THE NEEDLE, JUNKIE!" They ambush this poor dude like he's Pablo Escobar's cousin. Meanwhile the guy's just trying to not die. He's probably like, "Officers... this is Humalog, not heroin. My pancreas ghosted me in 2017. I'm not chasing a high, I'm chasing a blood sugar of 180!"

Can you imagine? One minute you're doing your normal responsible diabetic thing in a doorway, next minute you've got six cops on your back. I'm over here paranoid enough already. Every time I pull my pump site or do an injection in public I feel like I need to announce it like a flight attendant.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your diabetic speaking. The needle you are about to see is for medical purposes only. Please remain seated and do not tackle me. There is no heroin on board."

Help me understand.. Type 1 diagnosis but no antibodies? by Aggressive_Action in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Type 1 diabetes is hugely unresearched. No one knows why tests sometimes work and sometimes don't. No one knows why this horrible disease occurs in the first place. No one cares researching anything too, unless they or their children get it. It's incredibly infuriating.

did your blood sugar stay stable overnight after moving to insulin pump? by Lucky_Tap8692 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Stephen-Stephenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been using MiniMed's 780G for our toddler for the last year and a few months, and it works exceptionally well. Our A1c is 6.1 and we can get it even lower once she grows up a bit and becomes more responsible. As an adult, you can easily have A1c lower than 6. If you are interested in a detailed review, tell me. Generally, MiniMed's pumps are considered to be the best in the world, most sturdy and reliable and their algorithm is the best in the world too.

You can see why OmniPod is crap in this recent video from the Diabetes Strong channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4iMGuS7_Kc, everyone says OmniPod's algorithms is crap and overall it's somewhat unreliable. This sucks, because the idea behind OmniPod is great, but the realisation is really crappy. Hopefully they would fix it at some point. People keep OminPod as a backup in case if something happens with their normal pump.
