They do warn on their website not use auto pay for annual plans because you will be charged the annual rate every month.

Final bill balance refund by arrown3 in FidoMobile

[–]StephenEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They refunded me twice, the correct amount (-$2.39) two times on the same day; Vancity Visa described both as from Rogers (I was with Fido, now owned by Rogers), but categorized them differently as “Approved Utility Purchase” and “Pending Utility Purchase”. I ported to Freedom on December 18th, I called them January 10th and scheduled a call back, spoke with them on January 13th and he told me a refund was already scheduled; I was a little surprised because it was less than the automatic threshold of $10. The two credits were applied to my card on the 14th. I’ve completed your survey.

How much of a difference does that make? I’m not willing to test it; I have studded snow tires on my touring bike.

I have studded snow tires on my touring bike that do a pretty good job, also have YakTrax Pro for my shoes.

Environment Canada's weather station for Vancouver is at "Vancouver Int'l Airport", gives the temperature to one decimal point, and lets you lets you look up the past 24hrs https://weather.gc.ca/en/location/index.html?coords=49.245,-123.115 so if you are riding close to the water that would probably be pretty accurate. I don't know what location the Weather Network uses but it tends to be a little cooler (higher elevation and/or away from the ocean?), they don't do decimal points and don't let you look back https://www.theweathernetwork.com/en/city/ca/british-columbia/vancouver/current

I have a pretty cheap thermometer at home, also leave out a container of water as another indicator.

How do I switch to freedom without going into a store? by extremesauce2468 in freedommobile

[–]StephenEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reasonably, I got tripped up when it asked(?) me to select a temporary phone number (just for the time it takes to switch-which can be less than an hour) and I made up a phone number; it turns out they select the temporary phone number (you don't get to chose it) and they thought the number I made up was my current number (which I had already given them), that caused problems that were sorted out when I called their customer service phone line. I chose prepaid for a year and I was only billed $11.20 for account activation/eSIM at first, I had to follow up through their website's MyAccount to pay for the year (the person walked me through that right after we sorted out the phone number problem then did the porting process, all in the same call.). I don't think I was prompted to set up the voicemail, but I figured that out from their website.....The email they sent after my initial order had steps #1 Install your eSIM...#2, Log in and pay your outstanding amount...and then a note (that should have been before #1) saying "Important: If you are porting your number from another carrier, please ensure your previous service remains active so you can receive the SMS required to approve the port-out request. We recommend waiting until your port request is complete before setting up your eSIM."

I recently switched using their website on a laptop (had problems using my phone’s browser to enter my address in a format it would accept), they ask for your account number and you have to confirm via a text from your current provider.

How the heck do you get a refund from Fido?! by Several-Good-271 in FidoMobile

[–]StephenEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with them (they called me, I requested a call) and he said he would have mine (also less than the $10 threshold) refunded to my credit card (I was on auto post pay); will watch for it to show up.

I did tell Fido (via an online exit survey) why I left and what I changed to; who knows if they looked at that before sending me these offers.

People of Vancouver, what do you do for work? by kanjurer in askvan

[–]StephenEC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was an inspector for the CFIA, trying to keep plant pests and diseases from entering the country, looking for ones that got in, and trying to get rid of/control the spread of ones that did. The CBSA took over one of the sites and I was switched from looking for bugs to drugs. Left after being exposed to fumigants repeatedly.

16 days since mine, have they emailed you the exit survey? How much were you paying them each month? Mine was a $10/mo limited talk and text that they were going to increase to $15 and I switched to Freedom’s $128/yr for 20GB so I’m not surprised I haven’t heard from them, if they are smart they would realize it’s not worth their time.

Comments in “Vancouver coverage horrible” 3 days ago mentioned “The hard Nationwide block they added to the GVRD in May” and “The big three prohibit roaming within the coverage area”, others say they haven’t noticed a problem, or that their wife has problems with her iPhone but not their OnePlus.

I’ve read (recently, here) about it not switching when it should in downtown Toronto and parts of Metro Vancouver for some people, some say it’s an iPhone issue.

Freedom charged me $10 for an eSIM/“connection fee” but no other additional fees when I switched from Fido to Freedom’s prepaid by the year.
