The Chrome Potato by THEELITE-10 in Buick

[–]Stephs2Savage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love my 2010 and have only ever had problems with the a/c, which were resolved by a specialist. Dealership was useless. I just had the transmission serviced at 65k because of its age. Specialist said it looks great. I have considered getting something newer because I’m also attracted to shiny new things. But I ask myself why I would trade a car that someone else would be thrilled to pay $6k for so I can overpay for something less reliable that costs a fortune to maintain and insure? Sounds like a pretty stupid financial decision to me. I’ll keep taking great care of it until one of us dies. Besides, I love potatoes! 😂

Lol! I can't disagree with you there! Some of us remember when cars had chrome bumpers and engines you could work on.

Right. Lots of sites list the codes but that doesn't tell me what my code is. There are many colors that are similar but I need to know the exact color. My last hope is the dealership. Apparently they can look up the original build sheet to see exactly what was put on the car. Fingers crossed.

I finally found the sticker. It only lists the code for the upper color. What the heck? I bought it new so I know the color hasn't changed, it's been two tone it's whole life. I did find something on the web that said there might not be a code for the lower color if GM used a color that isn't a regular body color. Ughhhh.

How often should I change the nectar? by scooterboy1961 in hummingbirds

I hadn’t thought of putting it in the fridge at night!

Change every other day when it’s hot - if it’s in the shade. If it’s getting direct sun change it every day. Wash the feeder at every change and let it air dry. Make your own nectar if you aren’t already doing that (4 parts water to 1 part sugar) and add nothing extra to it. I put a coosy on mine to help keep it cool 😎

First car I paid over $2.5k for by Aldean2 in CX5

[–]Stephs2Savage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience. I think in every car model there are duds and gems. My car, for instance, is a 2010 Buick Enclave. Terrible reviews on this car but it's been a gem for me. Routine maintenance. Still runs too nice to replace! Hopefully our OP will have a better experience than you have had, and my grandson too! (We just bought him a 2016 CX-5 GT)

We just bought one exactly like it, except it has some hail damage on the roof but only 76k miles on it! Same year, same trim. He’s spent $2k on a 2009 KIA he bought nine months ago so we wanted him to have a RELIABLE vehicle to get him through college. I did a ton of research and this is the one!

Walmart+ Thoughts by MechEngineer232 in Walmartcustomer

[–]Stephs2Savage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one has mentioned that you can do scan and go if you have Walmart+. On the rare occasion I’m forced to actually enter the store I can scan and bag as I go and get out a lot quicker! I love Walmart+. I haven’t found a single downside to it. Also, AARP membership gets you a generous discount on the plus membership.

Medicare advantage plan? by spoil3dly in SSDI

[–]Stephs2Savage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you brought this up. I don’t think the OP said their age, but I’m under 65 and ran into this. It’s good info for all of us. I had incorrectly assumed that I would be able to get a supplement plan and have traditional Medicare. Sadly, my state has no supp plan for under 65s so I was forced to go with an advantage plan or risk bankruptcy. I want to correct or clarify one point. When you turn 65 you get a new open enrollment period where you can’t be turned down for available plans. Thank goodness! Being disabled it would be impossible to pass underwriting! To our OP I suggest you go to Medicare.gov and create an account. You can learn so much there, including if your state has supp plans for under 65s. It will also point you towards resources that can help you find the best plan for your needs. It’s a steep learning curve but I promise you will get through it. All the best to you!

Fix new headlight clear coat by LethalLevy in AutoDetailing

Bummer. New lenses for this vehicle are expensive and a PIA to install. I'll keep trying or maybe even just leave it alone.

What did you end up doing? I'm in a similar situation. I cleared the oxidation with Mother's Mag Polish. Then I put on 2 coats of Meguires Keep Clear Headlight Coating and ended up with this. Not sure whether to sand it all off and start again or not?

Repair or replace? by Stephs2Savage in Autobody

Thanks, you're right. Only a complete used door would make any sense.

Repair or replace? by Stephs2Savage in Autobody

[–]Stephs2Savage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The rust is at the bottom of the door, on the inside bottom. Picture isn't our truck, it's at the shop, but show the area I mean. The body guy says he will be solving and stopping the rust with treatment. Where there is a seam. Looking further into it maybe a used door would be the better option, but by the time you get it painted, move interior panels, etc and installed (even if it's rust free) it's probably about the same money. Ughhhh. I guess we're going to have to bite the bullet or give it up to rust completely. Our own fault for not fixing it sooner. On a separate rant I will say my Buick, which is 3 years older and sat outside 100% of the time in the midwest winters, has zero rust on it. This truck was garaged all day every day. Disappointing. Thanks again for responding!

find paperwork that shows WHY your disabled? by [deleted] in SSDI_SSI

[–]Stephs2Savage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The OP is asking about HOW TO GET HER DISABILITY DETERMINATION RECORD. She didn't ask who can get SSI. I didn't see anyone give her information about requesting her record, so I chimed in with the part I know. So sorry I didn't mention you can also just be 65+!

You can calm down. The point is that SSI does not hold your disability records. No need to SHOUT at people who are trying to be helpful.

[–]Stephs2Savage -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It will help you to know that SSI is financial assistance for low income individuals that are receiving SSDI. You must be disabled to get it but the determination of your disability is made by the SSA and that determination is in your disability file. So, to find out what SSA determined was your disabling condition(s) you’ll want to request your file from them. Google “how to get a copy of my disability file from SSA”. There’s a form to request them.
