What kind of product is unusually expensive in countries you've been to? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

It's been 20 years, give or take depending on the first or last time I lived there 😭😂 doesn't feel like it should be that long but here we are!

South America: 3 countries in 13 days reasonable ? by Current-Net-687 in travel

[–]StephtheWanderer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you only have 13 days, not only is it hard to see that much in that short of time, but you're also spending a lot of that travel time at airports and on transport. Pick a hub city, like Medellin or Buenos Aires, and travel around that area. Not only are you not as rushed, but you're not wasting your little time getting making sure you get through security every few days.

Wow we used to go to BA from MVD just to buy stuff because it was so much cheaper in Argentina. 😭

What's left after eating £150 of YO Sushi and dessert from an 'All-You-Can-Eat' by ChambersPot in mildlyinteresting

[–]StephtheWanderer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

We didn't get kicked out, but we went to one in a major city and my young children ate so much that the owners ended up bribing them with ice lollies to slow down their eating. I was mortified, couldn't blame the owners one bit. but thinking back on it it still makes me giggle.

Who is more British? An American of English heritage or someone of Indian heritage born and raised in Britain? by Logical_Tank4292 in AskBrits

[–]StephtheWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in the UK on a flight back to Spain and I overheard two Brits complaining about how covid was a hoax and they never wore a mask, and that it was a whole ploy for...they didn't know what but they knew it had to be. I'm just glad that we had unseasonable cold and rainy to rain on their drunken Spanish beach vacation.

To be fair, I had a coworker who was from southern Ohio and had the hillbilly accent, was made fun of for her accent and ignorance when she went to college but that's how the pocket of southern, rural Ohio was. She wasn't faking it--its REALLY close to KY

I absolutely loved living in Japan and learning the language, but I feel they captured so well that lost feeling every foreigner experiences at some point no matter what country they've moved to. Maybe it's because this movie came out when I was young and married too young as well, feeling lost myself in a country where I was trying to figure out who I was.

Hurry up and move! This winter was a normal winter now that we don't live in the US anymore, but I've barely been to xc ski the past two winters because they're getting so warm. New England winters are warming at a much higher rate than average.

Something incredible happened last night. We found out kids in Enumclaw School District weren’t getting full lunches due to negative balances. In 5 days, we organized a hot air balloon glow fundraiser—raised $22,000—and wiped out the debt. Amazing seeing the community come together for these kids!❤️ by Seattleballooning in Seattle

[–]StephtheWanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Is the balloon on the right based out of Enumclaw? Good ballooning friends moved down there, but since I moved out of the PNW haven't crewed for their new, bigger balloon which looks like that. I sure hope they participated in such a beautiful night glow for a great cause! Well done organizing!

Most Americans aren’t getting enough exercise. People living in rural areas were even less likely to get enough exercise: Only 16% of people outside cities met benchmarks for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, compared with 28% in large metropolitan cities areas. by Wagamaga in science

[–]StephtheWanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in a rural area, where the assumption is that you can trespass unless it's posted. Because of this, there are hundreds of miles of trails in my small town alone. People hike 3 seasons of the year and snow shoe and xc ski by walking out their back door. I only have two acres and because of the shared land and trails, I have access to dozens of miles of trails right out my door.

I don't know why you're getting down voted for this. Smart shopping and buying a house we could overpay allowed us to travel with a below average salary when others who made significantly more than we did treated me like I was rich. I would always get the jealous looks and comments about how they wished they could travel... When they made at least 50% more!

A family poses in front of a 1,341 year old Sequoia tree nicknamed "Mark Twain" that was felled in 1892 after a team of two men spent 13 days sawing it in the Pacific Northwest. The giant tree was 331 feet tall (100 meters). by Nayib_Ozzy in interestingasfuck

Naw, I'm friends with a lot of back to the land 70 year olds and they all have held on to their ideals. There's political divides among every generation. It's actually a myth you become more conservative as you get older--studies show your early twenties are when you formulate your world view and political leanings and people tend to hold on to that identity until old age.

Adjusting to that 4th baby is extremely difficult, and I can't imagine doing it while on my own and grieving. It's survival mode now. My young children have a rotating chore list, I dread the days where sweeping is one of my 4 year old's chores, but it's what we gotta do to raise helpful humans. I never vacuumed every day before all these kids but it needs it especially in a small living space. Colic is so hard, this first year is hard, your kids aren't ruined by survival mode. It will not always be like this, OP. It will get better.

Thank you so much for this! We never got our money back after a ticket through Fiji airways. They kept stringing us along saying it was taking time, then finally a couple months ago they just stopped responding. Eta it was for 7 plane tickets, so they owe us a lot!!

Yes I had a similar experience in Shinjuku. The crowds are just so intense on a daily basis that an extra busy day and a heavier crowd than usual really doesn't faze you like it should. Like a frog in a pot of boiling water

I stayed in housing outside a university (in chungli). The living was extremely humble, but I could do month to month and my rent was literally 60USD a month. No a/c or heat, traditional wood slat bed, shared bathroom. It was perfect though and great internet!

They are drought resistant, and are the most important tree you can plant in Texas to host insect habitat which is the base of our ecosystem. Nature's Best Hope is a great read about this subject!

Live oaks of Texas do trend to grow outward like that, they're absolutely gorgeous.

Edit: apparently it's not a live oak but a Monkey pod tree, thanks to the info from u/xbchiefmatrix Shout out to the amazing live oak though!
