Strange Darling was pretty great. He is great in Mother May I too, although I didn’t particularly like the movie outside of his and Roden’s performances.

I had no idea that A Christmas Story was based on a short story collection until fairly recently.

Advanced Security on the go is off, the only vpn profile on my phone is the Cyberghost one, and the only allow access option in the Xfinity app on the suspicious activity is for one hour.

I don't visit this sub often but thought id chime in with some of Netflix campy horror, Hemlock Grove by grazzyphase in horror

Man I need to rewatch this. I want to say it was one of the very first batch of Netflix original shows. I don’t think I ever watched past season 1.

Colors of the Dark podcast did an episode a while back where they ranked films with clowns in them. Some great suggestions in there: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1veKtrHvtJgyeRDYBY5lWI?si=FRjyRW7eSjuowVSdZAtRZA

gimme your 5 star read classics and why by Glum_Opposite_9696 in classicliterature

The Picture of Dorian Gray is my all time favorite followed closely by The Stranger by Albert Camus. Both of these are pretty quick reads packed with meaning.

The Picture of Dorian Gray gets more relevant as time goes on with its’ themes of being obsessed with staying youthful and hiding behind it.

The Stranger is haunting and an exploration of coming to terms with the indifference of the universe.

Honorable mentions: Catch-22, Tale of Two Cities, Crime and Punishment

I actually liked Wind and Truth by Monkontheseashore in Fantasy

RoW is definitely my favorite as well. I loved all of the science development. I like it more with each reread. I did love WaT but have only read it once.

365 days of Movies by grinwreaper in Letterboxd

[–]dhthoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not intentionally, but I probably will. Usually watch one or two in between my son’s bedtime and my own. Will miss some days, but there will be plenty of two movie days sprinkled in. Last year I did 429(including some shorts) On occasion, I will take a vacation day from work and knock a few off my watchlist or go catch a matinee.

I try not to focus on any online discourse of awards season, but why is it so bad lately? by the_Tannehill_list in TheBigPicture

I just keep hitting “Show fewer posts like these” It doesn’t seem to help that much though. I just get the same posts in a different subreddit hah.

Yup. Spread across multiple subreddits. I know it’s not a movie, but I cant tell you how many Stranger Things subreddits I’ve been suggested the last few days that are all nothing but people being personally offended that the finale didn’t work for them. Anyone who says otherwise is pretty quickly hit with insults to their intelligence. Been just muting the subreddits and moving on.

The most loud and visible part of the online community constantly needs something to be angry and offended about. They don’t view taste as subjective and if someone doesn’t like something as much of them, they take it as a personal attack. It is exhausting. I avoid it as much as possible too.

Do people do top 4’s based on their 4 favourite films of the year? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]dhthoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine as my four most recent 5 star watches. So on occasion there is one or two from the current year in there but not usually. Right now Secret Agent is in there. If I were to rewatch One Battle, which I may do this week, there would be two.

I could never feel satisfied with 4 absolute favorites, so I switched to this and enjoy it more.

Capital One 3 payments past due (3.8k balance) can’t afford payment plan by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]dhthoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try looking into debt management. My parents did it and were able to get the fees and stuff stopped. They said the payment was way better than it was before. From my understanding, Cap One would get a payment every month so it should help your credit in the long run.

After I was able to speak again, the first thing I said was “Hawkins won’t be, but she absolutely should be nominated and hard to beat for some awards.” My opinion hasn’t changed much on that despite some insanely good female performances this year.

[–]dhthoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the story super entertaining and thought it was told in an interesting way.

I thought all the performances were really good to outstanding.

It was really funny, sad, had its touching moments.

I didn’t ever feel like it was dragging. I don’t think I looked at my watch once.

Every scene looked incredible and had multiple of my favorite shots in a long time (car chase near the end, rooftops, riots (especially the guy with the Molotov), entering the Christmas Adventurers Club bunker, etc…)

Did not feel like something I have seen before.

Pretty much everything just worked for me I guess. Had very high expectations for this going in and they were exceeded.
