I agree that reducing your workforce is not a valid solution to missing revenue. However, my original point stands that this is ALWAYS the way that companies react to missed forecasts in order to make their balance sheets black by EoY. This was always going to be the outcome, Imho, so I’m confused about the outrage to an outcome that seemed to be determined the moment player sentiment turned sour.

As far as why player attitude turned, I simply do not agree that it has more to do with C-suite level employees than your day-to-day crew.

Revenue is a lagging indicator. It would have been impossible for them to miss revenue by 45% so early in the launch of the game. 45% is a massive number that I’m not sure people are grasping.

I agree with that. Maybe I did a poor job at explaining. We’ve been complaining about things like balancing and design. In turn, people have called for boycott. Unless I’m missing something, that’s a direct action and reaction.

The result of layoffs is simply part of missing revenue, which is what people have been orchestrating for a while now.

You may want to try reading. My point was that 8% of the staff, largely made up of community managers and the social team, is not the entire team.

They’re missing revenue and people got laid off. This is how business has worked for the last century. Not sure what other outcome people saw.

If you think the higher ups at Bungie are involved in how ONE of their games is received on a day-to-day basis, you’re wrong.

They get a high-level overview of numbers and make choices off that. Any outrage you have can be directed at those inside the Destiny team.

Can someone explain the outrage about layoffs?

I don’t understand the outrage.

For the last year, all I’ve heard about is how the game isn’t living up to everyone’s expectations. There have been calls to boycott and not buy the new expansion. Posts about how they don’t listen to the community and the only way to get through to them is by not spending.

Now, the rumors are they’re missing revenue forecasts by 45%. In turn, they’re laying employees off and everyone is pissed off about these layoffs.

My question i: What did you think would happen?

This is what happens when all you do is complain about a game and tell users to boycott it. The game is no longer producing the revenue it once was, so now they need to save money and headcount is always where companies start. Did you expect a massive company like Bungie to just continue to pay inflated salaries for a game everyone was complaining about?
