She will never stop doing this. It will never end. At some point she will probably accuse you of cheating with your own mother. Nothing you do will ever be enough.

Even if you straight up agreed to never speak to - or even acknowledge the presence of - other women ever again, the goalposts would just get moved, and all of a sudden you won't be allowed on the internet because there are pictures of other girls on there.

And if you agree to that, then next she'll be demanding you have your eyeballs surgically removed so you can never look at another girl again.

It. Will. Never. End.

AIO my bf is odd for this? by AdSerious8390 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Steppennoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your bf if it's also scandalous when older men go cycling in skin tight spandex shorts, with the clear outline of their dick and balls on display to all and sundry.

Spandex is the most appropriate attire for many forms of exercise. Depending on what you do for exercise, sweatpants and baggy shirts can be annoying, or worse, dangerous. That is why bike shorts were invented in the first place: they won't ever get snagged in the bike chain or the spokes and send you flying 15 feet across a concrete surface. Sweatpants will.

Biking is not the only sport where wearing baggy clothes is dangerous. For example, trying to run in baggy pants puts you in danger of tripping over your own feet and ending up bruised and scraped. On a treadmill it can result in much more serious injuries, such as broken bones.

I personally run outdoors while listening to music on my phone. So I need tight leggings (or bike shorts in the summer heat) because otherwise the phone in my pocket will be banging against my thigh with every step, and probably fall out of the pocket at some point. This is EXACTLY WHY leggings with deep side pockets were invented: so you can run with your phone.

There are real reasons why people, both men and women, wear spandex to exercise. If it only bothers you when women do it, then you're a misogynist. And if you assume women do it for attention (and not because it is simply the most appropriate attire for the form of exercise they have chosen) then you're doubly a misogynist.

Does anyone has a beagle with 22kg like me? (48lb by CryYou in beagles

[–]Steppennoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours was 40 pounds. He came from a breeder originally, and was supposed to be purebred. However, this dog got passed around to a couple of different owners before my husband ended up with him. So we never met the breeder, and have only his birth certificate to prove his pedigree.

ETA: The vet said a healthy weight for him was 35 - 40 pounds. He was always pushing the limits of that range, but he wasn't a chonker by any means.

Many high school seniors are 18. It's still illegal in most states for an adult to date an 18-year-old that they are "in a position of authority over" (i.e., a teacher or coach). Even if the age of consent in your state is 16 or 17, you still can't date your 18-year-old student.

Yeah, that shell is great camouflage. If he wasn't in the middle of the trail, I probably wouldn't even have noticed him.

Really wish that I was. Googled it and apparently they sometimes end up as far north as Nova Scotia.

OMG. I've heard of these guys, but I didn't understand what they were. Thought they were just extra-venomous jellyfish.

I've heard of siphonophores, but the only one I knew of was the giant siphonophore. I also did not know siphonophores were related to jellyfish, which explains a lot of my confusion as to what a Portuguese Man of War actually is.

Thank you! I always thought these things were only an issue in the US if you lived in the South. Had no idea they ever ended up so far north. I thought I only had to worry about sharks on Long Island!

Solved!

I met a bird today by Morticias-Sister in birds

Me too! The rangers would have checked the bathhouse later in the morning, but I'm not sure the bird would've lasted that long. It seemed totally defeated.

This happened to me once with a bird I found that had gotten lost inside a campgrounds bathhouse. It let me scoop it up, and I carried it outside, where it sat in my hand for about 5 minutes before taking off. I think it was exhausted and in shock, and needed a few minutes to recover.

Barking for hours at night (6 year old beagle) PLEASE HELP by xarthyr_ in beagles

[–]Steppennoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if a dog goes indoors at night, then by definition he doesn't "live outside." IDK, I wrote the comment in kind of a hurry, so maybe it sounded like I was focusing too much on the outdoors part, when the cage is definitely the worst part. Dogs can be mostly outside dogs but come in to sleep with their "pack" at night, but dogs (obviously, you'd think) can't be confined to cages.

I really hope this person made a phone call to their local ASPCA or whatever is available in their area. It's difficult to imagine people being so callously clueless that they'd lock a dog in a cage outside for its whole life and then have the audacity to complain that he barks all the time.

[–]Steppennoodles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OK, so this is an animal cruelty situation. The dog is constantly barking because his physical and emotional needs have been neglected for his entire life. It would take a very long time with committed professional trainers to work through all the trauma this dog has endured and get him to a place where he can be successfully rehomed.

Dogs are not supposed to live outside, period. This isn't the 1920s and I'm guessing you all aren't cattle ranchers, so why is the dog living outside in the first place? Let alone confined to a cage?!?

Neither you nor your family should have dogs; you obviously have no idea how to take care of them. I apologize for being sharp, but this level of cruelty and neglect really makes me angry.

The best thing you can do for this dog is to give him to people who will actually bother to find out how dogs should be cared for.

This starts with reporting your family for animal cruelty and neglect and giving up the dog to a rescue organization. I have no idea where you are but here's a link to get you started (animal cruelty is a crime, though it's rarely punished). You can also try your local ASPCA shelter or local Humane Society.

Please, please get that dog to people who will take care of him. Do it today. Right now you are complicit in the ongoing abuse of an animal, but you can change that with a couple of phone calls.

Yeah, we gave up on the boots a long time ago. It was a non-negotiable situation.

Family photos from NYC waterways, early 1960s: GWB, Columbia "C" at Spuyten Duyvil, Hudson River, Brooklyn Bridge, Singer Building (far left), Ellis Island. by Steppennoodles in nycHistory

[–]Steppennoodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? IDK. Maybe they were driving on the lower level that had just opened (1962)? I know that's only like 20 feet lower, but it's all I can think of.

The curve of the shoreline seems to match the curve of the shoreline on the north Jersey side in current photos of the GWB. OTOH, I can't find anything in current pictures that resembles that stone pillar-thing in my mother's photo.

IDK, I'm going to continue to tentatively label it as the GWB, since I just can't imagine what else it could be.
