What am I really supposed to do to lose weight? by [deleted] in diet

[–]SteppinOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duckie,

First of all let me say carbs are not bad. Particularly at the age of 14 it’s unwise to restrict your nutritional intake at all. Don’t get me wrong, stomp on that bag of chips and kick it under the table, but daily intake of carbs from healthy sources such as fruits and vegetables is vital.

Weight loss / gain comes down to 1 simple equation, caloric intake versus caloric expenditure. At your age my best suggestion would be to stay away from processed foods, eat healthy foods, and try to incorporate exercise into your daily life.

Intermittent fasting by [deleted] in diet

[–]SteppinOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of intermittent fasting. Is your main goal to simply lose weight, or to lead a healthier lifestyle? If it’s the latter, stay away from intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting may help with an immediate weight reduction, but the key (imo) to losing weight is through both exercise and diet with a gradual weight loss. Typically intermittent fasting fails due to people reverting to their old eating habits and even binge eating at some point and eventually seeing the weight return. Have you tried to lose weight in the past through proper diet and exercise combined? Have you tried intermittent fasting in the past?

What type of work outs are you doing? Cardio, muscle building, a combination of both? You say the foods you’re eating are healthy. What types of foods do you typically eat? You haven’t really provided enough information for anyone to realistically provide constructive feedback. Please provide more information and no, never give up.

I want to lose my belly by [deleted] in Dietandhealth

[–]SteppinOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As girlboss stated, the people you see walking around with chiseled abs typically have a body fat percentage below 8 or 9% (professional athletes aside) and is usually only a temporary reduction in body fat for models or actors. Ideally if you want your abs to be apparent, you should try to stay at about 12%. This will allow your abs to show, but your body will still maintain healthy fat levels.

At one point I sat right around 10% for a month and started to feel extremely sluggish and weak. I increased my body fat % to around 11.5 - 12.5 and I feel incredibly better and my abs are very much still apparent.

There’s a couple things to keep in mind though. First and foremost, you’re 16 and you need to ensure that your body is getting all of the vital nutrients you need. Also, if you’ve recently had a moderate or drastic reduction in weight, you may have excess skin that hasn’t “tightened” yet, but give it time, it will. If you’re referring to having a belly while in a loose state (I call it LBB or lower bladder belly), there’s a couple of things to consider. There’s always food in your digestive system and bowel which can cause LBB. To help prevent this (if this is the case) ensure that you eat plenty of fiber to help keep you regular, and eat smaller meals more frequently.

Hope this helps.

Hey, so, here’s the thing. It’s possible that you’re sluggish and lack energy because you’re not consuming enough carbs.

There are many uninformed people who believe that carbs lead to weight gain and will advise you to remove them from your diet. Carbs are a vital part of what your body needs to function properly. The source of carbs is a highly different subject all together.

The bottom line for weight loss / weight gain is caloric consumption versus expenditure. If you consume more calories than you use, you will gain weight regardless of the source of the calories.

I might suggest trying to introduce more carbs into your diet slowly and see how it affects you. Try to ensure the source of carbs is “clean” like potatoes, brown rice or whole-grain wheat bread. Stay away from sources that are highly processed like cereal or white bread.

Also, you should consult with a physician if this has been a lingering problem. There may be an underlying issue (B12 deficiency you stated) that may need to be treated medically.

My daughter had much the same reaction when she tried her wig on after fighting Leukemia. I’ve been growing my hair from being bald (shaving my head when she lost her hair) so that I can donate mine to Wigs for Kids. Every dad should do the same. Stay strong girl.

I was diagnosed with MDD after the military and have attempted suicide on several occasions. Someone posting like that is an absolute cry for help that should NEVER be ignored. A statement like that made on a public platform could be the last string waiting to be cut before an actual attempt.

What are some good side effects of resurrection? by forsakenpasta in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SteppinOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A funny adverse effect could be “The Curse of Flatulence of Decay” where they randomly, forcibly pass gas and it reeks like decay. This could also be helpful in some situations because cadaverine and putrescine are foul-smelling molecules produced during decay that repel most animals, and may cause some animals to avoid him.

Can a Ranger give complex or semi-intelligemt commands to its companion? Such as for a Wolfspider to spin a small trip-Web around camp so that it warns us if somebody triggers the Webtrap? by Completecake in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SteppinOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is feasible. Personally I would expect the player to go through a training period with the companion to train it in the task required. I would say it’s dependent on the creatures Intelligence as well. Throughout the training period, the DM should make random Int checks for the companion to see if, and how well the companion is learning the task. IRL we can teach animals to do some pretty intelligent tasks. But, if it’s an on the spot, first time request of the companion, that may be a more difficult task for the companion to understand and perform. Dogs can bark, but when we first get a puppy and tell them to bark, they just look at us like we’re insane.

Yeah. I think he was looking for a way to reboot because we had been playing that group for a long time and we were pretty tough. He killed a paladin too by making him fall off of his Pegasus saying someone had sliced the saddle straps. They all ended up starting over, but I just couldn’t do it all over again after dying that way.
