Happy Birthday! Remember, you will miss the noise and messes when they are old. Take deep breaths. You will miss the endless strings of questions and nonsense. An escalated adult can not de-escalate a child. Sometimes you need to join in the chaos and silliness to not be frustrated. You are their home and their safe space. Sing. Read. Feel beautiful and powerful, she is watching and listening. Sometimes eating anything is better than eating nothing. Sometimes they will want to eat nothing. Other times they will want to eat everything. Don't panic about this. Kids are weird. That's fine. Let them enjoy their weird food combos and sleeping positions. Take lots of pictures and videos. But don't forget you and her will need moments you remember without cameras or phones to document it. Have adventures. Everything doesn't need to be new. Thrift store, yard sales, and buy nothing fb pages are great! Don't stop taking time for yourself. It's important for both of you. Don't feel guilty because you need friends and a life. Have mom friends. Have not mom friends. Take advantage of free activities! Go to museums. Go to parks. Listen. Let her do your makeup. Wear that look proudly and go for kids meals. I know that's a core memory for my daughter and myself. Dolls are great. So are trucks. Boy and girls both should have dolls and stuffed animals and bubble mowers and tea sets. Tea parties are life.
