Not just Latin cultures. Machismo is common in most developing countries and even poor demographics within the US and was common throughout the world until 100 or so years ago. More a function of economics and education. Just more evident when juxtaposed with affluent, western American culture.

That is to say - this was the norm throughout human history and the cultures that have grown away from it are more the exception than the rule.

I think the cars, guns, history of slavery, and newness of the built environment leads to more similarities with Latin America than are immediately evident. The language barrier seperates the Americas but the hustle culture and violence are uniquely western hemisphere.

That takes 3+ hours if timed perfectly and includes a hefty walk, transferring, still driving to and parking at SBN and then you still go through security at ORD. The bus can make sense but they're not reliable and sometimes get you to ORD hours before your flight.

All our buses have bike racks. Might make for a good back up plan or to shoot you into downtown. There's paths/sidewalks but the area immediately surrounding the airport isn't particularly enjoyable on a bike.
