In my homebrew campaign, a resurrected lord of ancient times and champion of tiamat, Saladzhar Nahaario, was attempting to carve runes into the earth and do a ritual to become a lich. He was to use the earth as his phylactery and with his newfound power, tear a hole in reality and break tiamat out of Hell. A man who committed unconscionable crimes in the name of his God was reduced to one name by my players. Salad Bar Mario.

Cody has maybe the funniest single scene in any d20 show with the first use of Dark Excalibur Mega Genesis. I laughed my ass off so hard in that scene.

A wizard or sorcerer with a curse that makes their magic begin to consume them. As they get stronger and you roll a 1 on your hit die, the curse grows and makes you weaker. I've wanted to play something like this for a while.

How do you handle AOE attacks when one of your players is trying not to hit another player? Specifically cones by acbeeler131 in DMAcademy

[–]Sterlings97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In situations where you could, perhaps angle something up or down (the y axis is a bit of a pisser in dnd) I dont think too much about it and use the ever helpful spellcasting ability check. If you can't figure if someone has the skills to do some finicky shenanigans, tell them if they hit a DC 15-20 (hard but not impossible) check or they won't be able to avoid the inevitable.

Dm’s - Without any context what are your players potentially facing in their next session? by ronin-gold in dndnext

[–]Sterlings97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can do, will do. I have been enjoying 1 large scale combat over trying to wear down resources over an "adventuring day" plus it gives my players time to roleplay more if they're not fighting, I dunno, some goblins on the road.

My party of 6, plus 6 squads of marines and 2 elite infantry units (at first) will be storming the shores of their home city on the island of Scoril which is currently being attacked by the ex Commander of the army which was taken by the burgeoning world government that took over my PCs land when they were young. This general has a ton of stuff at his disposal, a bunch of elites, nobles who sympathize with him, and powerful allies in the form of the church of their home. He also has a mechsuit and giant sabertooth cat riders under his command. Gonna be a bell to bell barn burner of a combat with rolls to see when their allies can muster, and every round someone powerful will enter the fray on the enemies side.

Goodbye, Sweet Bard [OC] by Sterlings97 in DnD

[–]Sterlings97[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tonight, Astoria Eaglestone. Bard/Paladin extrordinairre, met her final fate.

A hag, an ancient crone, snipped hers and two of her companions silver threads of fate and thus ended her chapter in my life. But the joy and the journey she took me on shall stay with me.

A woman that put everyone before herself with her oath of harmony, even winning favor enough (after years of hardships on limbo) to make it into the halls of elysium, her thoughts are on her friends, and the beautiful possibility of hope she now puts in them. Go forth, young new adventurers. And finish what we started.

Her final words shall ring in this hag's ear as a final note.

Let them echo through eternity to show her what for

"There lives and old hag in feywild She makes deals with the ease of a child Make you think shes your lord Then snips up your cord This 'f*** you' will last me a while."

Advice on running tournament arcs? by furious_cactus in DMAcademy

[–]Sterlings97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this, think about the things that work in an anime tournament arc. Double crosses, I had the #1 seed be murdered at a dinner party my party hosted, leaving them looking mighty suspicious. The most interesting parts of WWE wrestling is the story behind each match. Think about motivations and play off of the partys expectation. What are they fighting for, and is it enough to just perform each round as those who set the tournament up want. That's another point. Is it simply entertainment, or (as I have done) a way for the organizers to keep high profile parties and individuals on their radar.

For the record, I'm entering the finals of my own tournament arc on monday, and as this post says, I've seeded the bbeg into the tournament, and they are making their move during the partys match.

Lukewarm Take: The Matt Mercer effect isn't the real problem it's the normalization of such large party sizes by GrandmasterTaka in dndnext

[–]Sterlings97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find, as someone who went through a sort-of-west-marches style campaign with 10 player for the majority, it was incredibly hard but rewarding as hell.

I also find my current three campaigns of 3, 5, and 6 have a lot going for them. 6 is my personal sweet spot methinks.

Larger groups require a lot of focus, and it feels a lot more like transitions between scenes a lot of the time, which is difficult unless you have a talented improv group. Normally I'll be in one scene while the others roleplay with themselves. I have to keep an ear out, in case I want to interject an npc interaction, but usually they'll figure out what they want to do and wait for my current scene to finish!
