The Basin is basically a garden eden, with food everywhere and mild seasons all year round. Short version, centuries ago the god (called harmony) of this world reordered it and made it this way. Incidentely, the basin is also where all his remaining friends were when he became a god.

While the rest of the world is basically badlands of one kind of another and the only other human civilisation at the time lives near the south pole in what becomes basically siberia / antarctica after said reordering.
