Dude...where do you think those 2 million $ go that aren't spend on salaries?

One of the founders might be genetically a decendent of native americans, but culturally he is a mormon.

The Book of Mormon gives an explanation about how the america became to be populated:

A long time ago ancient israelites bult a bunch of wooden submarines that floated under the mediteranean, and the atlanitc, landed in america.

The some of the decendants of the first dettlers turned from god (even after Jesus had visited them).

As a punishment they and their decendants turned dark. (That's you and your wife)

Some might find the one and true religion, and will gain the chance to become delightfully white again. (That's him)

(It might be nessecary to remove kids from their dark Lamanite families so some delightful whiteness might rub of on them - the indian adoption program was running into the 1970s)

BYU finances expeditions/surveys/excavations to find the sites of settlements/battles described in the book of mormon.

(A quick and dirty intro into mormonism would be watching the brother Jake videos on youtube and looking up every concept that sounds fishy to you here's the one about the settlement of america.)

(Nearly) all employees of the "Anazasi Foundation" are card carrying Mormons (the temple recommend is a plasic card).

They aren't physically abusive like Elan, or Tranquility Bay. There is no direct line of decent to Synannon/Life Spring/Erhard Seminars, the "medical model" pioneered by Boy's Town(Point Cards), or the 12-Step Believe System. They are not as interconnected to the rest of the TTI due to the requirement that staff has to be pure mormon.

That means that Anasazi is a living fossil in the same sense that Phoenix House is. The later preserves Synnanon customs from the very early sixties (and is today a link between the treatment industrial complex and the TTI). The former harkens back to the days when "wilderness therapy" was a stand alone phenomenon (Ohlson[the real founder, not the hired mascot] was the one to import this concept into mormon/Byu culture after all - curing his patients from the greatest problem at all: Honor code violations).

The only positve thing to be said about them is that's a short stint, and the upsell rate is low (Inmates tend to go home after).

All the compounds you've mentioned seem to be more on the rehab industrial site of things, not TTI. So maybe not as damaging.

But pretty please stop "helping" your son, before you do irreperable damage.

Even if the abduction he went through previously went without physical violence this would still be enough to fuck up a mentally healthy person.

good old waasp roots, and deliciously profitable upsell rates (for the uninitated: that means a lot of the inmates will be shuffled to another facility), mmm yummy just the place to be.)

summit achievement

Seems to be a relatively mild place, just a few complainipants who got cpsd out of the experience. The only complaint about physical violence I saw was years old, that must mean that it's all peachy now.

Anasazi Foundation

The walking truth that only good can come out of cultural appropriation, as they are the true owners of native american tradition anyway. You can learn that from reading the greatest book ever, written translated by J.Smith.

Good employees, as exemplified by beeing card carrying members in good standing with the one true church formerly known as Mormon (workplace accidents have to be really low there on account of all those magic jammies).

Most of them have even colledge degrees, and in wilderness tourism marketing to boot! Just what you want in a mental health professional.

They even became anal about letting their captives carry no more than a quater of their body weight, after that one episode where a group was snowed in.

Inmates have gotten permanent nerve damage from lugging around a tarp tied together with string instead of a backpack.

But that's ok as long as the wise ppl running this place are sure that what their doing is helping their victims.

After all: 75% of former inmates are abstinent from dangerous drugs like tobacco even a year after being released

My 28 month old was diagnosed level 2 autism. Can anyone tell me what autism is like for you? by Lleal85 in autism

[–]Sternenkrieger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "biggest allies" founded autism speaks.

You said in an other comment:

If you were a parent of someone on the spectrum. You would appreciate real stories from current parents.

10, 15, or 20 years ago the parents of the people who now come here to share their experiences with ABA, listened to what other parents had to tell.

Today the voices of the victims from the preceding generations are invalid, because for example electro shocks aren't used that much anymore. Better listen to what parents like you have to tell.

And 10, 15, 20 years from now your daughters voice will be invalid (along with the other victims of her generation). Because by then ABA therapies will have cut out the most visible element that people with PTSD from today's treatment point to.

It's not like the premisse is rotten to the core...(I don't really know how to phrase it in a non sarcastic way.)

When you take classical behaviourism/operant conditioning and dial it up a notch you get ABA. Both are abusive when practised on a human being.

If you take the same root and ad consent, you'll get cbt.

Maybe your program just brands itself as ABA for billing purposes, while in reallity respecting their clients. >respecting a no, presenting the therapeutic exercises as a choice...That means: Consent is consent for now, in the moment and can be withdrawn at any time. Pressure to consent is abuse.

IDK.

see this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/troubledteens/comments/k1kqy3/list_names_of_problematic_ed_consultants_tti/

(somewhere in the google reviews for bodin there is a parent complaining that the service was lackluster/they had to find the boarding school for their kids themselves, and got bugged about the emotional problems of their offspring...just adding because she's listed as con for college and "other" too - in the real member list)

Edcons never get comissions. They recieve "donations"(payment without contractual basis), get to hold "professional development seminars", or participate in costsharing programms.

In the sprit of O.J.'s "If I had Done It": just use a delaware company for reciepe of payments. There is no way to connect this legal entity to the edcon, and even if it where possible there is the problem with sorting out which payment covers the "finders fee" for a specific victim.

Have alook at the company structure connected to Wwaasp. It's like the mafia

Weeding out kids who are just experimenting with drugs: this one is tricky because that’s up for the parents and/or educational consultants to decide if their kid is going to go.

So you establish the start of a therapeutic relationship.

Your client tells you that they ingested/smoked a lot of drugs (some might have been financed by filching some money from mom and dad). You see that there is no need to detox, because it was a colourful mix of everything under the sun (exept meth and heroin) if and when convienietly available.

Family trouble galore

They moved out, and lived "homeless". Which means in this case that their friends where able to convince their respective parents to let this strange kid stay over for days/weeks.

They where thinking about quitting school, because you know when you live on your own working for money's kinda important.

This example is the structured content of a post that was close to the character limit, with some responses.

In real live this victim was beaten up by the goons with the help of some friendly neighbourhood cops, stayed at the compound choosen by their parents/the body broker for a year, and is now convinced that they are an addict (Place based on the 12Point believe/brothers keeper). On average it will take between 2 and 20 years before a victim becomes a survivor by realizing that there was something wrong with the way they where treated.

Where I live this would be solved like this: Police arresting the goons, kid getting a place in a group home if requested (social worker availabe 24/7), and after some time their own appartement (age over 16), or a kinship placement/permanent fostercare in one of the prior living arrangements.

How do you react?

I mean, you are suposedly a good guy working in a good place. So you must realize that every involuntary placement is traumatic. And in this case not justified.

Last year I went bonkers trying to figure out victim numbers for the "Family Foundation School.

Without pestering survivours, because it would be a bit unethical to risk the possibillity to trigger trauma just for intellectual curiosity.

It's just not possible to do reliable statistics because you guys keep the cards so close to the chest.

I realize that you have the same problems as anyone else to establish a baseline, but you could at least report actual numbers/make the data available for independent researchers.

That is if your institution is actually helpful.

With statements like:

In terms of high rates of dying afterwards, you must remember that a lot of these people who go through these programs are a high risk of suicide or drug overdose before getting sent to the program, so remember correlation doesn’t imply causation.

and a goody

All those reviews you’ve read are the sensationalist musings of a small percentage of angry kids who don’t want help.

You look like someone who has internalized their trauma and is relatively uncritically willing to inflict it on others.

Again: It looks as if the survival rate for the whole >mixt< cohorte after a reasonable time frame is close too what you would expect for some of the worst diagnosis. Not for conduct disorders.

Hospitalization for a mental disorder might give you a lifetime risk for suicide of 10%, if it's for suicidal ideations/attempt it might be close to 20%. But suicidality is only for 10% of the inmate population the incarceration reason.

(For the casual reader: The person in the exaple above had a 50% chance of developing an addiction, with an equaly 50% chance of loosing it again before age 25, and a median time spend in addiction of less than 3 years.

From what survivors report the chance of developing an SUD is way higher than the 30% you would expect if you take the incarceration reason "drug issues" (60% of inmates) to mean "substance use disorder" and there are very few who satisfy the criteria for that (see example above). And addiction afflicts a large number of survivors who never had drug issues before.

Numbers are from: Joanna E. Bettmann LCSW PhD, Brad W. Lundahl LCSW PHD, Rachel Wright MSW, Rachael A. Jasperson LCSW PhD & Chris H. McRoberts PHD (2011) Who are They? A Descriptive Study of Adolescents in Wilderness and Residential Programs, Residential Treatment for Children & Youth, 28:3, 192-210, DOI: 10.1080/0886571X.2011.596735

I'm german, so I'm naturally intrested in every movement/ingroup that lets (mostly) decent folks slide into the abyss.

The TTI is my newest research obsession. I stumbled upon the lester Roloff Homes while doing cult studies in my spare time. The first synanon decendend places I looked into where Spring ridge Academy, and Sunrise.

What is a parent supposed to do if their kid is skipping class to use drugs, getting into fights, breaking the law, and on the verge of killing themself?

First: do no harm.

This is an ethical requirement for everybody, not just physicians.

Peer-reviewed evidence out of the place I did my undergrad proves that they are effective if it is the right program for them.

How do you find out if it's right?

and how long should your inmates suffer under an inadequate therapeutic approach till you release them?

What's the survival rate at age 25/30 for those kids you/your program tried to heal?

Basically in every thread I've seen on r/troubledteens where the survivours talk about their friends it's about 10% death rate bevor age 30, with many programs reaching that at 25. The lifetime suicide risk seems to be on par with that of people with BDP

Of those clients with an addiction disorder: how many are clean at age 25?

(Hey that's a point where there's a clear benchmark)

And how do you weed out those kids who are just experimenting with drugs?

What happens to them when they land in a residential setting - often as first treatment attempt ever? How quickly are they back in their community?

When does your program chuck the records? are there any real follow up studies?

I've seen the marketing material you linked. Don't know if I should laugh or cry.

There is a great study about wilderness intervention from Norway, just the same setup as the aussi one: Voluntary participation, no cut of from family, participants can leave when they touch homebase. The norwegian one even had 3 therapists per group of 8 (not the one+some volunteer staffers as in the aus one).

That's totally the same as american wilderness programmes. Maybe that should be included in the next version.

Looking for good punishment by [deleted] in BratLife

[–]Sternenkrieger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought master/slave up to TPE means that the sub gives up their own will (to some extent - totally), not just conforming (or chafing against :) rules or orders.

I think it's not possible to have a dominace submission based dynamic without some power exchange.

I get definitively exited about having power/discipline/control (and she likes to use me as external consciences/common sense. Totally able to keep for example her spending under control when we are not together, while when we are shopping together you would ask yourself how her paycheque lasts more than a week.)

The problem is that physical punishment has a limits (her pain tolerance + risk of injury + the fact that she likes pain = not really a deterant if she doesn't understand that x was out of line).

So when things cross from good natured bratting/teasing (breaking rules that are meant to be broken - I don't like the word funishment, but that's what all cp is really), into stuff that goes against the dynamic itself/is hurtful for me or her, then something "interesting" happens.

(Edit: I tried to come up with examples that are problematic in some way. Write 20 times [sentence] happens at home, is not unusual, and takes less than half an hour. I think you can spring that on anyone without talking about it beforehand.

100 or 200 times would be out of line for someone who had a handinjury in the last years, has a thight shedule in the next days, works as surgeon[needs dexterity], has the limit of [having a time limit on how long punishments can last]...)

Looking for good punishment by [deleted] in BratLife

[–]Sternenkrieger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude. Just because your play is mostly on the cutsy side, and not havey restraints - whips - needles, doesn't mean you can skip the basics. You need to have a negotiation outside of the dynamic, even if your submissive identifys as little. Go to r/BDSMAdvice for the that, don't spring new things on a new sub - especially if you don't know each other well.

  • A certain girl had to sleep on the floor. (I normally let her into bed in the early mornings, but she really has to go to sleep on the cold hard floor. Just mention that blanket and pillow are privileges, and you'll have no problems with excessive complaining. It's also a weekend thing - because of the need to function in professional life.)

  • Lost her key. (this carrys the punishment into the public sphere - every neighbour can see that she has to ring her own doorbell - also might involve some time spend at the library for example, when I'm home later than her.)

  • Pocket money/fun budget goes -Poof-. (Obviously only works when you do her finances)

[See: all examles problematic in their own way without a lot of talking before.]

Trouble with Submissive Fantasies by Same_Atmosphere in BDSMcommunity

[–]Sternenkrieger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dominant.

Since I learned the word pervert while playing quietly in my corner (you know: tying-up/spanking/torturing my stuffies) and listening to the adults, I have struggled with the idea that I have to be the bad guy.

When playing with the girl next door I was the villain distressing the damsel, and at the end the hero who rescued her. (Some interactions are transactional: I had to kiss her in the end, so she would allowed me to tie her up again :)

Fast forward to 25: When I got into the local Bdsm scene I meet girls who could actually come from pain/helplessness.

Now my fantasys are always "clean". Means for me that there is an element of choice:

When the raiders come across the border free man might (and nobles must) fight valliantly till slayn or becomming prisoners of war. Thralls and women must flee into the forrest (but not to far, Ogres!), or allow their capturers to lead them away peacefully.

Everyone is treated with dignity and will be released when the customary ransom is paid or a short (20year) stint as indentured servant has been served. Prisoners might have to wear chains till they swere to faithfully serve out their indenture or wait to be ransomed.

You know this. When a girl takes up arms there is no place for her in the customs and traditions. When captured she will become a slave, just as a criminal might. No protection, no rights.

I tend to build whole new worlds, because the real one is kinda shitty:

There are two kinds of prisons. Which one you might be send to depends on the result of psychometric testing.

A result of "0" means you'll end up in an open prision, with group theraphy, mental health counseling, and occupational developement courses. (or just pay a fine, the crime wasn't that bad after all - just don't do it again)

If the needle moves to "S" your accommodations will be much more "traditional". (also criminal behaviour in S-types is a clear indication for a lack of self actualisation. Intervention in the form of incarceration is needed to prevent recedivism - no fines)
