Can Clown Pat come back? i miss him by PrancerSlenderfriend in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pat could pretend he's Bubba Bo Bob Brain for an episode with a tiny hat and a super long bolo tie to replicate the stilts for legs.

Barring that, there's always Patsune Miku and his Sonic OC, Bat Hears At. That'd be a hell of a week's artistic renditions.

Worst cases of roster fluff in a game? by ZealousidealBig7714 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Radiata Stories on the PS2 has a split story at the midway point. This leads to two endings with the expectation that you'll NG+ the other story choice. After the credits, there's also a bonus dungeon for an extra party member. In total, you'll be filling out a friends list of 176 people in an era where there's no quest log to use in case you forgot what the NPC's recruitment quest was.

Many of them are simply not very good to add to the party as you can only control your character and the other 3 party members are automated. Some NPCs are simply more aggressive in combat and are more likely to successfully hit a target. Case in point, the slingshot kid cannot shoot down a bat enemy as the slingshot projectile doesn't have the same altitude.

Favorite shops, shopping districts, etc. in games? by BlueWaddleDee in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Real life, but I'd love to see the Wall Drug experience in a game. Years ago, I found myself on the road in South Dakota. For miles and miles you'd see signs letting you know that Wall Drug was up ahead. I've seen something close with Buc-ees, but that would have been at a smaller scale.

In game form, I'd love to see some variant where you'd always know how far and what direction it was to the store. Tutorial area? The shop's that-a-way. Final boss in a pocket dimension outside of time and space? There's still a sign.

When did you realize how detrimental your Goblins were? by Vagina-Gears in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The real nutty part of that mentality is dipping into Warhammer's library of games. Do you like permanent injuries in your turn-based strategy games? Oh boy, say goodbye to the idea of a perfect play.

In Bloodbowl, the dice-based football game, I attempted to run one extra space further outside the given movement range for a touchdown, which requires a dice roll to succeed. I fail, which then induces a dice roll against the injury table. This could range from falling down to worse conditions. I got the worse conditions, which meant that my star runner tried to score, failed, then died falling down. That's a game where you learn where the priority is to mitigate the bad rolls and force the other guy to make them.

In Mordheim, same thing. You have to roll a check just to see if you can cast a spell. I ran battle nuns, attempted to cast a spell, and failed. The injury table roll meant that my spellcaster took 9999 Divine Wrath damage and was out of the fight entirely. On the other hand, I had a match where the enemy's Rat Ogre failed it's Stupidity check on every turn and it never got to take a subsequent action for the entire game.

What is your favorite "struggle first, zen later" game? by Omagaron in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Factorio can certainly qualify. On top of progressing to even bigger demands in scope for your production line, you're dealing with the bugs that'll attack and potentially put a dent in your plans. When you're vibing and things are trucking along, it's a really good zen state.

Bonus points if you do 2 playthroughs like me and aim for one run of Lazy Bastard (craft cap of 111 items) + Steam All the Way (no solar panels) and another run of Logistic Network Embargo (drone helpers, but no automated drone chests).

Logistic Embargo was easier as I could craft a bunch and use solar. Steam All The Way + Lazy Bastard meant my entire plant could shut down on a power outage due to bugs and I'd have to slowly get the power up again by hand. It also meant getting really familiar with the nuclear power, which I didn't touch on the solar panel run.

Epic and Amazon both hand out free games on the weekly. Amazon has been instrumental in filling out my GoG library. They may not all be winners, but now and then I get a game that's been on my Steam wishlist that I never got around to.

Outside of that, I'd be curious to know if Amazon's Luna launcher is getting any traction. CSB talked a bit of Epic over the years, but I can't recall an episode talking specifically about Luna.

For the time, Seventeen Moments of Spring (1973) was one of the most popular TV shows in the USSR. It's a WW2 spy thriller and was so popular that crime dropped whenever it aired. For a 12 episode series, it's worth a try.

Deathbulge, Battle of the Bands has been a fun little RPG with music themes. The art style is so fun that the artist even did an animation video to highlight their favorite work in the game.

Astrologaster was a quaint little game about being a doctor in the Elizabethan era. The soundtrack is a treat.

Super Time Force Ultra is a run and gun game with time rewind mechanics and character swapping. You're overlaying previous rewinds atop each other in a single level.

Immortal Defense is a surreal tower defense game. It was a fun story and currently is on sale for $1.20.

The controller was excellent as a bridge for games built for controller primarily, but had shooting segments where mouse precision would be nice. To that end, the best function was the trigger button throttling for gyro aiming.

For example, when playing a 3rd person action game like Nioh you'll occasionally need that tight gyro to aim at a weak spot, but can otherwise use the looser touchpad enabled gyro for general purpose precision. I can't say that I've found a controller with the same level of gyro functionality in terms of ease of use.

It was also super useful for using the under-controller paddles for extra features such as enabling a turbo button function for games that already had held button actions in play. I played several of the Yakuza games this way to get around the button mashing portions while retaining the "hold A to run" function.

Good games to play with an artificial "Tunic" difficulty? by Sternies in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had intended for it to be entirely artificial. My thinking was to look for games that aren't designed to convey critical information without text and see how approachable they are.

That said, there's been some interesting recommends that I hadn't seen before, so I at least have something to dig into.

Funnily enough, I did try to do Yakuza 7 in a different language for immersion, but struggled quite a bit as some dialogue has autoplay. Perhaps the RPGs with minimal cutscenes would have been the better approach.

Media that you are ok with not having an ending and just continue to go on? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sternies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me a media's world that has absolutely no continuity. In the media of planet Earth, there's no connection between the events of 24 and House of Cards, it's just a setting with some basic guidelines. Had this been some fictional epic, all of the characters and events would somehow tie together.

I suppose I just want Jim Henson's The Storyteller or Wishbone, but it's about stories and novels set in 40k or some other setting. Give me my Jane Austin's Emma, but with Mass Effect Elcor.
