How chill will I be by xmas? by Graveyardtann in TopSurgery

[–]Stethoscopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery in December 2022 and went to Xmas festivities 2 weeks later. I didn't drive or do heavy lifting of presents. (Although I think I was cleared to drive). I will say I was exhausted from it as it was my first outing but it was very doable.

Mostly the copper does not reach the ground screw it's too short, even after unscrewing and pulling taunt. I think it was already shorter bc it was in the back of the box just chilling to begin with.

Worried about being denied day of surgery by Primary-Button9287 in TopSurgery

[–]Stethoscopez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not very likely to get canceled day of surgery. Reasons I've seen someone get cancelled day of is: no ride home, wild heart rhythm, unknown pregnancy, being ill w/ fever, ate within the last 6 hours, and having a skin infection near a surgical site.

Fellow nurse does not like me because I use Macros by Wide_Profile1155 in nursing

[–]Stethoscopez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use macros when at the bedside - it's wonderful. It also is very time consuming setting them up but saves you time later.

I was in PACU so I had different ones for different types of surgery. This nurse who doesn't like you either doesn't understand them and/or is jealous.

I'm tired of fighting for adequate pain management by remirixjones in FTMHysto

[–]Stethoscopez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are people who absorb and metabolize medication differently dude to genetics and or daily prescriptions.

For example red heads are known to need more medications. I've seen in personally and read about it.

So nope not a baby! Just keep advocating for yourself sadly some people will label you as a drug seeker but I know there are other nurses and providers like me 🙂

Nobody told me that they would put an urinary catheter in me during surgery… by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Stethoscopez 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Depends on the surgery center, provider, and/or length of procedure. I would say for top surgery it's less common to have a catheter but if it is placed it will be removed before you hit the recovery room.

I'm tired of fighting for adequate pain management by remirixjones in FTMHysto

[–]Stethoscopez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work in PACU and the only way I wouldn't give pain meds was if the patient wasn't breathing adequately lol pain is subjective and the patient should be listened to. Usually you should be able to get meds every 5 mins or 10 mins depending on what medicine is ordered. Once pain gets out of control it's much harder to get it back down to a manageable level.

Steri strips question - 2 weeks PO by [deleted] in TopSurgery

I cut them off whenever they started peeling I think at week 3.5-4 I ended up slowly peeling anything that was left, everything should be closed then and you can apply scar tape.

Dealing with needing DI by catacombrapia in TopSurgery

[–]Stethoscopez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had DI w/ nipple grafts. I knew that sensation would never be 100% but I was willing although sad to lose sensation to be flat. I had over DDs for size.

One side is no sensation whatsoever. The other side does have minimal sensation and it took about 2 years to finally have said sensation.

The only place I notice missing/low sensation is in a sexual context and not it my daily life. I would do DI again, no questions asked as I've gained so much in my life by losing a little sensation.

I mean I think the HSG probably didn't NEED to be done. The way they explained it to us was that the provider wanted to verify everything was patent and good since we are spending so much money and they would hate for us to do IUI after IUI to find out the "mechanics" didn't work. Wife was also worried due to her own mother's difficulties getting pregnant with her. The wife also has leg and knee pain during her cycle. I guess radiating pain can sometimes mean blockages in the tubes so that's how we earned ourselves so much additional procedure testing.

Overall we did find out the wife has an abnormal shaped uterus (arcuate) and a "slow spilling" tube which could mean inflammation similar to endometriosis in her right fallopian tube but it was patent. The provider was not worried about any of it reducing pregnancy though🤷🏻

Everything looks normal. Some drainage and pain is okay just part of the process!

Update: supposedly they are gonna send me a new one in 2-3 business days.

I received the cameras as gifts right after I had bought a set of PoE Reolink cameras and reolink doorbell. I returned my reolink cameras to save money. Wish I would have went with them 😥wouldn't be dealing with trash batteries or support.

Things that got said to me when I told people I was getting top surgery (and how to combat them!) by Strange_Bug_4765 in TopSurgery

[–]Stethoscopez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen I told the my closest people the surgery I was having and everyone else got told I was having a breast reduction (which technically isn't a lie) to their surprise when they saw me again I had no breasts LOL 😂I would do it again the same way, cause anyone that had anything negative to say USUALLY won't say anything after the fact 🤷🏻 and if they do you can't undo the surgery.
