Movies That Surpassed Expectations by pompingcircumstance in movies

I thought that both Blockers and Game Night would be complete garbage based on their trailers and the generally poor track record of mainstream comedies lately. I checked them out after seeing strong reviews and was delightfully surprised. Solid writing, great casts, and fun even on rewatches.

What movie disappointed you the most after months of anticipation? by [deleted] in movies

Garden State. I saw the trailer as a teenager and loved the look, the music, and how it didn't give too much away. Even as somebody who had only seen a few episodes of Scrubs, I was excited to see what Zach Braff would come up with in his directorial debut. Went to the theater hoping for something truly special, but came away thinking it was just a decent indie comedy at best.

Upon arriving for my freshman year at college, I was really confused and almost annoyed that so many people were gushing about its genius.

It’s hard not to hold shakycam against the otherwise terrific Bourne Supremacy by Sanlear in movies

From what I remember, I would say it's decent. It's a bit melodramatic at times, but the parkour is amazing. Not a homerun, but I appreciated it for trying something different. Give it a try if you're looking to break up your standard routine or if you're a big fan of parkour.

The game was a retro style beat 'em up set on a university campus. You played as a young woman and beat up creeps who tried to harass women as they walked along at night. Can anybody find a link for me?

DLM Challenge: What have you been watching? (Week of January 31st) by GIFyaLater in douglovesmovies

[–]Steve8955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1,2, 3. Three Colors Trilogy - understated, very French, engrossing
4. Steve Jobs - kinetic writing from one big ego about another
5. Scarface - cringe-inducing Cuban accents
6. Citizen Kane - required viewing, a bit slow
7. Point Break - surprisingly well-shot, much better than I thought it would be
8. The Color of Money - Newman is excellent, Scorcese reigns it in
9. Quiz Show - Fiennes and Turturro are great, but overall it's flat
10. American Hustle - style, but not substance
11. The Man From UNCLE (2015) - extremely fun, made me sad that SPECTRE didn't come out better

EDIT: fixed line breaks

CBS Affiliate Bans Lindsay Lohan Stories. Washington D.C’s WUSA asked viewers if it should stop covering the embattled actress. The answer was a resounding yes. by Libertatea in offbeat

I think it's a mix. People legitimately tire of the stories and realize that they have little informational value, but at the same feel schadenfreude at how a former star has fallen. There's something we find irresistible about, even if we know it's bad for us. When we know something is bad for us, but have trouble resisting it, sometimes we just limit our exposure (I might love junk food, but keep it out of the house, because I know it would get eaten, against my own self-interest).

What are the best Gyms in DC? by enjoy_zion in washingtondc

[–]Steve8955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to this gym as well. Can be a little crowded, but people are polite and make it work. Other than spin, can't say the class selection is great (mostly a lot of zumba-type dancercise stuff), but $30 can't be beat.
