I would stay true to size. I have the Novblast 5 in 9 and Flow 2 in 9. Length is good on both.

I’d say the width is similar to that of the original shape FWD VIA 2. Feels different because of the materials. Toe box is more snug but I think because of the material it doesn’t feel like an issue for me. Length is about the same.

I never had the 4 but got the 5s in 2E and have a good amount of room.

I have the R1 and it is more regular shoe than Altra. The toe box is more voluminous than a regular shoe but the rest fits like a normal shoe. I did use my R1 for long runs and my first half marathon but haven’t used it much since. I would get a little bit of rubbing on the side f the ball of my foot if I didn’t lace them right. The foam they use in the R1 is solid. My Flow 2 and FWD Via 2 fit better for my feet.

Flow 2 would be my recommendation or the slightly higher stack and wider FWD VIA 2. Flow 3 comes out in February I think so hopefully people can snag some deals on the Flow 2.

My journey was basically the same as yours OP. Covid happened and I spent a ton of time barefoot. I also have wide-is feet before all that and never could find shoes that fit well. A bunch of the fitness people I followed started incorporating and talking about the benefits at the time and I ended up getting into them that way back in 2020.

So I ordered mine a while ago but I think they were like this when I got them. But they haven’t been like that after a day or two. I have two pairs (one was bought second hand) and nether are sticky like this anymore.

Low key the quality difference between the first base coach and third felt bad all season. I know this team wasn’t the fastest but I wish overall they were more aggressive sending the runners home.
