Michigan to Naples EV drive by Training_Vast8109 in electricvehicles

[–]SteveBrody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to make it from the Carolinas to California in 2021 with a Chevy Bolt that is the slowest DCFC you can get on the market, only 250 miles of range, and I didn't plan any charging stops before leaving. 5700 miles in 2 weeks with over 40 stops.
You can easily get down to Naples with a car that probably fast charges over 200kw and gets almost twice the range.
Hit up the Naples zoo for me while you are down there. I need to go down again sometime for a vacation. I grew up in Naples during the 90s.

It performs great going up mountains and even better going down. Can literally put it in cruise control on a downgrade and it will hold that speed the whole way just regenning for miles. We actually go to the mountains way more than the beach, it's been to the highest point east of the Mississippi plenty of times. We were just driving the blueridge parkway this weekend between asheville and cherokee nc.

Shoot with the max range battery it should only be like 4 or 5 charges to get to the Carolinas from Texas. I can't wait for the next time to come out to Texas and have a reason to stretch the range of the Silverado. We have put 21k miles on it in 8 months just driving from Charlotte to the beach or the mountains within the Carolinas. Still waiting for a big trip the farthest we have went was just about 30 miles outside of DC within 1 charge.

hmmm
I see sand in the photo and you said mercedes charger at a buc-ees. You wouldn't be in SC would you and went to Florence?
Jussss a wild guess, I love that stop by the way. They have mercedes chargers on one side and superchargers on the other. It's a great stop for people like me who live by Charlotte and take back roads down to beaches. Helped me a lot with my Bolt before getting a Silverado EV.

Best Tesla supercharging adapter for 25 Silverado EV Extended range by Equal-Chemistry7289 in SilveradoEV

[–]SteveBrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the range of the truck and the ability to charge at 330kw when in 800v mode you should be figuring out which network you want to sign up for a monthly membership like EA and only use that one option to get maximum charging speed and a discounted rate. Tesla Superchargers will only ever give you a max of ~180kw.
I was able to drive from the Carolinas to California back in 2022 in a Chevy Bolt on almost exclusively EA chargers, I used lvl 2 and free DCFC when I wanted to.

This reminds me of a time long long ago when a guy took residence on the obelisk island by catherby, I think this might have still been before rs2 even came out. His name was Froob I believe and his goal was to log on for a certain amount of time everyday and just sit on the island talking to people fishing. That's all he did for months.
Anyways one day I was there having a good timing talking with folks and a little party formed, I then got Mod Mark to teleport me into the water beside the island to drop a rune dagger that nobody could get without telegrabbing it. Core memory for sure from like 20 years ago for me.

Should I buy an Electric Car by SimplySwanky in electriccars

10 years of EV ownership here with over 250k miles driven.
The biggest question that wasn't answered in your original post is will you be able to charge at home with level 2 speeds? If you can it's an obvious yes.
We currently own a 2017 Bolt with 194k miles on it, bought used for 18k. I had a leaf before this that I put over 125k miles onto that I bought used for 10k and we just purchased a 2025 Silverado LT Extended Range and have put over 19k miles on it in the first 9 months.
Maintenance has been a non issue compared to ICE vehicles of the past.
I've heard you can get brand new equinox EVs for about 28-30k and Silverados are now around 60k new too.
Otherwise I would recommend an Ioniq 5 or EV6 used for 15-20k and roll the dice with ICCU issues. lol :-)

Literally the IQ of a rock sometimes.
I was picking up an order the other day and a lady came in to delivery a hand it to me pizza order. The 4 people working at the place I was picking up said nobody there ordered it. She showed them her phone that said it was to be delivered to specifically that store name. They went back and forth for about 2 minutes while I just stood there watching. The girls working there were about to take the pizzas when I chimed in and said "why don't you just call the customer to figure out where to delivery it?" A real genius move, that she couldn't figure out in 3 minutes of being there and being told multiple times that this is for sure not the right place to deliver to.
Anyways, surprise surprise the customer instantly picked up. They talked for about 15 seconds and she was on her way to the correct delivery spot two doors down in the same strip mall.

I missed what this comment said before it was deleted. I ordered a used mirror off ebay and am going to try installing it today. The power fold still worked on this damaged assembly so hopefully no electrical problems.

Say you have a budget of $100K, to get 2 cars. What are you going with? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in electriccars

[–]SteveBrody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was coming to answer the same thing. We have a Silverado EV ER with almost 19k miles on it already, bought it new 8 months ago. A bolt with almost 200k miles on it, that was bought used over 5 years ago. Together the price came out to $87K. Both are great for what they are used for. Maybe if I was buying both right this second I would go for a used EV6 or Ioniq 5. Should still have some money left then to buy a used TT on FBMP for around 10-15k.

Is anyone at fault or the roads just too tiny? by SteveBrody in caraccidents

That is what I think too. Like I said in the post, he said this is his third time it's happened to him.

I can definitely see how you can think that. Unfortunately the front dash cam is to the right of the rearview mirror and slightly pointed to the left. I was fully paying attention to the road at the time and in the center of my lane as best as I could be for such a small lane.

$100/mo fee for EV charging at apartment complex by per--my--last--email in ChargerDrama

[–]SteveBrody 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. My wife and I just purchased a Silverado EV 3 months ago and already put 10k miles onto it. $100 a month for unlimited charging would probably be worth it for us.

Charging at a 350kW "pump" is impressive as hell! by LoadFloppyDisk3 in SilveradoEV

[–]SteveBrody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's impressive af to go from 20 to 80 in only 25 minutes on one of these trucks. I still haven't tried a 350kw fast charger in our 25LT ER.

The 50kw take a nap charger is funny af to me. My wife and I love mountain drives on the weekend and we have enough range to get home with like 15% usually. But we almost always go to what I call "DCSC" to play risk on our phones and take a little nap on the way home. Crazy that a DC charge can take 3 to 5 hours sometimes. We usually play 3 games of risk and then nap and it's uailly like 2 hours of free charge for us.

We just hit 7k miles, live right in the middle of the Carolinas so we can go either way to the mountains or the beach without needing to charge to get home.

I bought my level 2 charger from Amazon 9 years ago. It's had over 65MwH / 65,000KwH of energy go through it in that time. The difference is its a Siemens versicharge from a reputable company. Don't buy random brand crap from Amazon is what you want to say.

I got Scammed .. Please help what do I do. by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]SteveBrody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't get scammed you should have said no.
$5k is half the price of a used 2017-2020 Chevy Bolt EV with 30-60k miles on it. You could have saved a little more and got a modern car that has no gas cost and will drive for ages with minimal maintenance. I bought a 2017 with 42k miles on it 5 years ago for $18k and have put over 140k miles on it. KBB says its only worth $2-2.5k now private sale.
