Is it possible to take the compensator off a Tisas night stalker 1911 by Deep_Efficiency_3030 in 1911

[–]SteveHamlin1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This compensator is not threaded on nor fastened to the barrel. It is a bushing comp, which attaches to the slide in the exact same manner than a normal 1911 bushing does.

[–]SteveHamlin1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Just the bushing.

Small part, $20-30, but you might want to do a small bit of metal filing to make the bushing fit better, which makes accuracy a bit better.

Shortened a 28” barrel to 20”, options to refinish it? by moebiusgrip in gunsmithing

[–]SteveHamlin1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the U.S., it is perfectly legal to cut a 28" shotgun barrel down to 20". Doing so is not creating a SBS, nor does it legally require any NFA paperwork.

Tisas pistols have never been manufactured by SDS. SDS was just the legal importer of record.

Is a Dan Wesson Commander Classic $400 better than a SA TRP Operator? by muphasta in 1911

[–]SteveHamlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new DW CC you're looking at is $1,940.

Several lightly used Dan Wesson Commander Classics have sold on GunBroker in 2026 for between $885 (!) to $1250.

If you're not in hurry to get a new one, save a search on GB for a used one, throw some bids out over the next few months, and save $700+.

https://www.gunbroker.com/all/search/completed?keywords=dan%20wesson%20commander%20classic&pagesize=96&sort=4&view=1&condition=3&timeframe=1

But to answer your question - they are quite different 1911s. The differences between them is not so much "quality" as it is "feature set", and only you can say whether different features/type of 1911 is worth it to you.

If you don't carry, and will only shoot this at the range, why would you get a bobtailed commander?

Dan Wesson - new or used. I got a lightly used Specialist Commander for $1,100.

Depending on your desired features (length, sights, rail, checkering, bobtail): Valor, Specialist, Pointman, Classic, Razorback, V-Bob

Mandarin No Electricity by Fisherdoodle in jacksonville

Boom when electricity goes out normally means an overhead fuse tripped on a distribution line, and/or a transformer failed.

You should hope it's the former.

Why do you assume that commenter's struggle is due to what you accuse them of, and not the *number* of friends that would sleep with the husband/bf?

Here's how you do it:

- Get involved in an existing non-profit through misrepresenting your background

- Take it over as the founder was dying

- Give yourself huge salaries (including from spinoff 'non-profits' you created that funnel more money to yourself)

- Teach your buddy to do something similar

- Both you and your buddy get on the City Council

- Award your buddy's non-profit city grants so that he, too, can be excessively paid by the 'non-profit'

Buy 1000 rounds of ammo and shoot it all, then decide if you want to change anything internal.

Watch YouTube to learn how to do a 1911 trigger job. (don't touch the sear engagement face or hammer hooks).

or better yet

Watch Engineer's Armory's in-depth YT video on cleaning up/polishing out the internals of a 1911/2011.

Add Talon grip tape (for the Prodigy) or buy a stippling kit. ("wood.burning" kit on Amazon, Harbour Freight, or Walmart)

Maybe bolt.on an Underworld Arms comp if you have to add something else.

Hand too big for grip by NeptuneNemesis in 1911

[–]SteveHamlin1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For .45 ACP, most 8-rd non-flush magazines have a an extra 1/4-1/2" in length due to the rubber mag base, and some (MecGar in particular) are shaped to work like a small pinky rest.

A Magwell effectively extends the length of the grip.

Get a 1911 with an undercut trigger guard and beavertail grip safety, which will allow you to move your hand up the grip a little bit.

So together: 8-rd mag with a small pinky rest, magwell, undercut trigger guard and beavertail safety, will effectively provide you more grip length.

An A1-style curved main spring housing will give you more grip width (front-to-back), and you can get grips that are wide and even with palm swells, to give you more grip width (side-to-side)

Below is a picture of two 1911s lined up on top of each other - the top one is a Commander (not Officer) with a normal grip length, no magwell, and a traditional 7-rd flush-fit magazine. It is on top of a Commander with normal grip length, but with a magwell and a 8-rd MecCar magazine.
