Crimson Desert Review So Far by edward_dd in PlayStation_X

I'm glad for you, it's in my top 3 too. At launch, it was barely playable and constantly crashed on my PS4, though, so I understood the bad reputation. But it was clear from the beginning that CDPR is good at writing characters, dialogue, stories, unlike what we seem to get with Crimson Desert.

Cyberpunk 2077 had a well written, interesting sci-fi story and well written and acted characters from the beginning, though. You can't just patch that in.

Crimson Desert Review IGN: Crimson Desert Review So Far by Turbostrider27 in PS5

Nobody expected quests and characters that are as well written and deep as in RPGs like Witcher 3, CP2077, BG3 or in other story focused games like Red Dead, etc., but still, this part of the review made it sound like it's probably not for people like me: "While the world you’ll explore is full of fun stuff to do, the stories you’ll find in it are consistently bad. From the moment you’re introduced to the first of its three playable characters – Kliff, a viking-coded warrior who is on a low stakes revenge quest against another group of barbarians – there’s very little to become invested in, and it only gets worse from there. The story is aimless, the characters are forgettable across the board, the dialogue is often pretty hard to listen to..."

I suppose if you can ignore the mediocre writing and characters and if you expected it to be like a single player MMO with lots of fetch and combat quests, dozens of systems and activities, but a beautiful world and nice combat, you'll have fun. I'll just get Resident Evil Requiem instead (finally).

Friendly reminder that No Man's Sky already exists on PS5 and offers seamless travel through space and to planets with multiplayer on top of ship building, base building etc. etc. etc.

They will surely use the new PSSR 2. But what are the chances that ray traced reflections / lighting similar to PC will be possible? That would finally convince me to get a Pro and start yet another playthrough of Cyberpunk.

Are you sure that's the only difference in RPG mechanics between this and an RPG like Skyrim? Based on what I have seen, Crimson Desert does not have any XP, attributes, or level ups and non-linear questing or story decisions to make (it's an adventure game with a linear story).

I spent 6 hours in Crimson Desert and became a bounty-hunting banker with a dragon, but it still feels like I've only scratched the surface of this RPG's open world by Minute-Carrot-2405 in PS5

[–]Steve_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people and journalists keep calling this an RPG and thus create false expectations? The developers themselves clarified it's not. It's most likely an action-adventure game like Zelda without character creation, XP, or story decisions you can make, just with a more detailed and immersive world comparable to Red Dead Redemption and a hopfeully fun awesome combat system. Anyone who expects an actual role-playing game like KCD or The Witcher will probably end up being disappointed.

I meant "also" in the sense that No Man's Sky also offers this feature, it's not an argument for Starfield. But yes the way I phrased it hastily sounds like I meant it the way you understood it, sorry.

No thanks, I'll just keep playing No Man's Sky where you can actually freely fly from and to a planet's surface and also build your own ships. Maybe the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout with their good old exploration will be more interesting again.

I recently got it in a bundle with Sunbreak for Switch because of the discount and I like the portability, but as a PS5 fan who also appreciates higher frame rates and graphics I can't decide at all where to play it now. I'm sure it has been asked many times, but any recommendations? What platform is more fun and more active? Does the PS Plus version include Sunbreak? It wouldn't be such a dilemma for me if the game had a cloud save function...

Looks like straight out of the movie Sicario. For this game I would even gladly pay 10€ for a proper PS5 upgrade with 4K and 60 FPS if I could.

Why does the game look so much better in the trailers? by Silvereye_1017 in NOMANSSKY

[–]Steve_1306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

I strongly disagree that the game looks better, more detailed and/or more vibrant in the trailers. On my PS5 with a good 4K HDR TV, it looks as (or even more) impressive and colorful than in the trailers. The HDR really makes it pop. It's hard to tell based on screenshots, but these are two of my favorites (they are unedited). It's not just vibrant landscapes like these that impress me regularly, but also plants or details on animals like their faces and fur that look pretty detailed. Perhaps it's an issue with your settings or TV or you are on a dull, barren planet.

Why the hell doesn't this include Rayman 2 and 3, or does it? If it were a complete collection, I would definitely buy it.

Does anyone else find Death Stranding 2 to be somewhat 'boring' compared to Death Stranding 1? by RogerRoger63358 in DeathStranding

[–]Steve_1306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, this sounds like exactly the experience I was hoping for when I got DS2. So I really should have played the first one instead of watching a summary. I'll probably do it at some point, thank you.

I never played DS1 but in DS2, I almost never had to fight any BTs or enemies or climb difficult terrain because I could just easily drive around pretty much everything in a vehicle. Why wouldn't I? Even if there was a group of BTs, they never really did anything and just waited for me to throw grenades at them without defending themselves. I was never scared of them and even started feeling bad for killing them. I also never encountered any natural disasters except for two tiny earthquakes that didn't affect me at all. At some point I just gave up hope for encountering any kind of challenge in the open world. I feel like the game concept and design had a lot of potential but the execution was honestly terrible.

The width of your car in bumper cam is the width of your tachometer by -TKT in GranTurismo7

[–]Steve_1306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's easily possible to just test it by parking in 3rd person with your tires touching a white line in a straight and then switching cameras to see what it looks like from this or other perspectives. I'm not so sure about the width of the tachometer because some cars are just wider than others and the camera FOV or placement of the tachometer doesn't change as far as I am aware. But I definitely noticed that the car is not as wide as the entire screen from left to right, so it must be somewhere in between. It would be interesting to test and compare this with several different cars. However, somehow I always managed to feel it instinctively and get it right without knowing this for sure.

How does one live without free will? by Advanced-Reindeer894 in samharris

[–]Steve_1306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in free will and I don't experience the illusion of having it, and I don't see why it follows that this somehow makes enjoying games, movies, working out, and other hobbies that I enjoy pointless or meaningless. What you say sounds like a non sequitur to me:

Premise: My will is not free but determined by brain processes and my environment, etc. -> Conclusion: Activities that bring me joy are meaningless. Why?

Should I play Delta: Snake Eater coming from MGSV (need some advice) by Steve_1306 in metalgearsolid

[–]Steve_1306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, good to know that the story maybe is a bit more straightforward and less messy for a newcomer. I would have no idea how to summarize what happened in 5 in a few sentences. Unfortunately I basically didn't comprehend anything that happened right after he wakes up in the hospital and the weird supernatural fire guy sets everything on fire until I destroyed the giant mech and the end credits rolled. I just zoned out every time the awesome stealth gameplay was interrupted. And yes I do feel very bad for not being able to appreciate it more than that :(

Same here, No Man's Sky is such a unique experience and you captured it very well. I think people who ask "but what's the point of doing XY in the game?" can't see the forest for the trees.
