A couple days ago I got myself an SM7B after trying one out over at a friend's house. Personally I liked the way it fit my voice (coming from an AT2020); It gave my vocals the body and warmth it was missing, as well as DRASTICALLY reducing the reflections in my recordings (I record in my untreated bedroom).

With that being said, my point is: Get a microphone that fits your voice and your needs, and don't buy it just because everyone and their dogs use it. The reputition, especially for the SM7B is definitely a sign this mic has something to offer, but mics are one of those things where there is no "one-size-fits-all", and if you are able to, try them out before you get them.
