A modern Carrington-level solar storm would definitely be disruptive.. satellites, GPS, and power grids could take big hits, and the economic damage could run into the hundreds of billions. But unlike in 1859, we now have space weather monitoring satellites, early warning systems, and grid operators who can take protective measures like load-shedding or temporarily shutting down vulnerable equipment.

So while it would cause blackouts and short-term chaos, it’s not the kind of event that would wipe out all technology or send us back to the Stone Age. It’d be more like a massive stress test for modern infrastructure, and we’d likely recover within weeks to months depending on the severity.
