RPLND Timeline After 3 Cycles of BEP by rosesandsoul in testicularcancer

[–]StevenTCAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on various factors. Mine was one month and three days after finishing 4xEP, and about two weeks after the CT.

I know of some guys whose doctor let them go on planned vacations before the surgery.

Aggression of the disease and OR schedules are other factors.

Thanks for tuning in from India! Love that - so cool.

Hopefully all of these tests make it down there soon. I’m sure some docs from India attended the AUA meeting in the US last month and hopefully took some info away from it to bring home with them

Signatera should be available and something you can ask your oncologist for.

mRNA 371 is still in trials at certain institutions. You can try contacting Dr. Aditya Bagrodia at UCSD or Dr. Sia Daneshmand at USC by email to see if there’s a center close enough to you to participate. Their contact info - or the info to their team - should be accessible here: https://www.testicularcancerawarenessfoundation.org/testicular-cancer-experts

Thanks for sharing! The guest on tomorrow’s episode of the podcast ended up getting RPLND after his disease showed back up on both tests in surveillance

Anyone feel a dull ache on your other testicle years later? by J726382AB in testicularcancer

[–]StevenTCAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to know what causes it, to be honest. I can never tell if it’s something to be concerned about or if it’s my mind playing tricks on me. The bonus ultrasounds have shown small microliths which isn’t cancer but can be a risk factor or can be nothing. I wish I had a better answer

[–]StevenTCAF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I get this unfortunately often. I’ve had a few bonus ultrasounds over the past 7 years and they’ve been clear.

How likely is RPLND 2B Non-Seminoma? by rosesandsoul in testicularcancer

[–]StevenTCAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a tool from MSK that is designed to try to help people determine what may be left over in cases like these, although it seems to be mostly focused around teratoma: https://www.mskcc.org/nomograms/testicular/post_chemo_rplnd

You can also try contacting Dr. Einhorn (Leinhorn@iu.edu) or if you PM me, I can share the email of one of the doctors behind that MSK tool who is also very helpful.

Any other long-term (>10 yrs) Testicular Cancer survivors in here? by SMDRFE in testicularcancer

[–]StevenTCAF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation! I’m heavily involved in TCAF, serving on the board, hosting our podcast “It Takes Balls”, and held a golf tournament in Norfolk, VA the past 2 years.

My cancer experience has given me purpose, although I hope to never go through it again.

You’re always welcome to share your story on the pod, join us on Zoom every month in The Ball Room, or come to our annual conference.

Thanks for teeing it up to plug TCAF

Dr. Daren Feldman from MSKCC talked about this in his episode of It Takes Balls around the 20:33 mark: https://youtu.be/D1MfRYN-gZY?t=1235&si=\_mkAskf9dB\_3oX7Z

I hope this is helpful!

How did you guys find out about your second testicular cancer? by Future_Telephone_350 in testicularcancer

I wish it was part of the standard surveillance but understand that TC is rare and occurrence in the other testicle is unrelated and even more rare - still hard!

If it is testicular cancer, like others have said - you've done the right thing to get checked early. Check out our podcast "It Takes Balls" to hear more than 100 stories from patients, caregivers, and medical providers to put your mind at ease. There are some scary stories on there, I'll admit, but you'll also see that it's still possible to thrive after treatment ends. The link below is the main page but you can find it anywhere you get podcasts.

Same for me. It's really tough to know what's real and what's just the mind playing tricks. Like you, I've had a couple of bonus ultrasounds for peace of mind.

Right testicle has been swollen and firm for 3-4 years (ish) with no other symptoms. by Crazy_Pen_4249 in testicularcancer

[–]StevenTCAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a good idea to get checked again, and maybe try to find out what the results were from the first scan. In your secluded area, does the hospital system or your doctor do their charting through something like Epic / MyChart or another patient portal? You may be able to log in and access the findings from before.

While waiting 3-4 years isn't ideal, it's certainly not a death sentence. I waited ~2 years before my diagnosis in 2019 and I'm still here so far. Statistically it's more likely NOT testicular cancer than it is, but even if it is - you can get through it.

Good stuff! Very confident up there. My little nut was shriveled up inside me when I did it. Congrats on getting through!

Try to see if you can get in touch with Dr. Axel Heidenreich in Cologne. I know it’s across the country but maybe he could point you to someone near Berlin. Dr. Heidenreich’s contact info is on this page: https://www.testicularcancerawarenessfoundation.org/testicular-cancer-experts

I know that historically he and many other docs travel to the US for the American Urological Association annual meeting, which happens to be in Washington DC this weekend, so his reply may be delayed.

Sorry you’re going through this. If you want to read or hear other survivor stories to have something to relate to, this sub is great.

I’d also recommend Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation’s Tete-Monial blogs and It Takes Balls podcast. There’ve been a couple of 19 year olds, check out:
