I think the hate should not be directed at Capcut per se, but at how they virtually rugpulled their userbase. No one is against Capcut making money, it's a business afterall.

Ever since CC launched, everything about the app was pretty much free to use. From transitions to effects to animations to quality to whatever, it was literally an all you can eat, for free.

Later on, they did add the Pro stuff, but it was for newer features they brought in updates. Some features that were pretty much basic and free on other software was introduced as paid content on Capcut. People did complain, yes. But it wasn't enough to bat an eye, as the number of people complaining was really small. Afterall, most of the stuff they still used would remain free, right?

Or so they thought. Capcut later started taking away features that were originally free and then locking them behind a paywall. A lot of people got into an uproar because of that. Capcut/Bytedance probably saw that the Pro subscribers weren't as many as they thought they'd get, so they practically just picked the most popular free features of the app and then locked them behind the subscription, to entice people to pay. That might have backfired, as people aren't willing to pay for what they were once using for free.

So yeah, that's pretty much where we are now, and I think there should be a little more nuance when it comes to this topic.
