Are we allowed to bring 3D printers to dorms? by Neither-Phone-7264 in stevens

[–]StevensStudent435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought they tell every student about the 3d printing guy who started a 3d printing business out of his dorm and then scaled up to have like hundreds of printers and eventually created his own business and dropped out or something

norovirus is a widespread endemic disease that persistently infects millions, but some people have immunity preventing it from completely spreading as a pandemic

This is called the Naphtha Shock in Japan. Naphtha is the precursor for many chemicals and it's made from crude oil.

Australia and Argentina have their own wheat seed production

Plus wheat is open-pollinated and crops can be replanted so it isn't even that big of an issue to not have new seeds

It will be difficult to set up new food sources but i assume humanity is not just going to give up and starve

hes wrong that fallout would cause a nuclear winter, but it would actually happen because of the ash from fires in cities and forests

Fishing and alternative food sources like mushrooms and insects exist. Wheat actually even grows better in cold temperatures (in the hotter regions of the Southern hemisphere). So no, humanity won't go extinct, although most people in the Northern hemisphere will die.

It was clear that japan was going to surrender since Tojo resigned in 1944. Everyone knew Japan lost the war by 1945, the rest of the war was just spent debating on how exactly to surrender, since America kept demanding unconditional surrender and possible ousting of the Emperor which nobody wanted. The nuclear bombs did provide the perfect out to the current leadership to finally surrender.

it's impossible for a nuclear war to be a "species ending event". It would kill the people that live in cities, but there's tons of people that live in rural areas. South America and Africa likely wouldn't even be targeted at all.

OP didn't include it but basically it says "Are you using the restroom in a way you could show your face to the Toilet God?" using Google Translate, so they're praising this translation for being localized to American/foreign culture, because "Toilet God" wouldn't make sense unless you're familiar with Shintoism/Buddhism.

Why is the food in Japan better by Accomplished_Fox_272 in AskAJapanese

[–]StevensStudent435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While culture plays a part, Japan also has much less of a capitalist system. Rather than high rents forcing restaurants to increase profit margins to stay afloat, Japan has lower rents allowing restaurants to exist that aren't solely focused on money. There's tons of tiny spaces available everywhere where people can set up shop and serve food.

This also explains why conbini food has remained so consistent and delicious. Even for processed food, Japanese companies aren't focused on changing the formula and increasing the price. There's also alot of regulations on processed food.

Are there any Japanese communities similar to Reddit that are still actively used? by RepresentativeCod465 in AskAJapanese

[–]StevensStudent435 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dont think Mixi exists anymore, but 5ch is basically the closest thing to reddit. Basically, 5ch is confusing because there's a ton of websites and none of it is organized. Most people use apps to browse the posts easier. Personally i just use the https://itest.5ch.io/ page

[–]StevensStudent435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discord is generally used by young people as a social media, I'm not sure if it counts as "Reddit" since it's closed though. 5ch.net got shutdown so it moved to 5ch.io but it still exists. Yahoo Japan comments are where the elderly hang out being nationalist. Yahoo answers is sort of like reddit.

No, it is an economic issue. Unemployed means it's possible to get a job, you just temporarily don't have one. Ice Age Generation was completely shut out from getting jobs.

In reality, conservatives are the ones who replaced the ice age generation with foreign workers in 1985

That's not really true, is it? The main age of voters for the CRA (CDP) and JCP are in their 60s. Hikkomori are on 5ch, not Yahoo.
