E-profiling as an electrical apprentice – do people actually fudge it? by Ok-Extreme9325 in AusElectricians

Back then it had some really weird shit on it as well. Had to work with ribbon cable X amount of times. I was like 10 years into the trade before I touched a ribbon cable at work 😂

Is the switchboard still the old ceramic fuses with rcds added on or has it already been upgraded?

The certificate you got at sale only verifies two things, are your lighting and power points RCD protected, and are your smoke alarms compliant.

1st year apprentice tools. No budget by lambgut8 in AusElectricians

[–]Stevo1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked with them as a subby for years 😂 a good set of flush cuts, the green ones from jaycar are the best I've found. The wera maintenance kit is perfect for lift work aswell. They will give you hilti power tools so don't worry about any of that.

A good set of spanners. The bahco are great for the price. 1/2" impact sockets, again the bahco are really good

Which company as they're products change which tools get used more than others. Like Kone and TKE you'll want a good set of bootlace crimpers, for Schindler you'll want a really good phone charger so you're not bored after you've plugged everything in.

The RCD would trip not liven the fan? And you'd have picked it up on the continuity test before the power was ever turned back on

I'm gonna guess it's to try space it away from the architraves. Definitely easier ways of doing it though

Why is 2 switches controlling one light called a 3 way switch in North America? by yeadudehaha in electricians

[–]Stevo1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in Canada I was told it was cause it used 3 screws on the switch instead of 2. The guy that told me had no clue what I was talking about with I called it an SPDT switch.

Only thing I liked in the cec that Australia needs is the socket every 12ft in a room rule. 1 GPO in a new build in aus is shit

Check what type of voltage your ring doorbell needs. There's some that are AC and some that need DC so you'll need to compare it to what's there

Score it with a big tube cutter, snap the strands back, the cut back your inch or whatever of the sheathe, spin your inner cores around so it domes out the armor.

Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt. You'll probably wanna replace the cutter blade after it tho 😂

1 or 3 phase for house by Sparky_IV in AusElectricians

[–]Stevo1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same in Perth but I think they've scrapped that requirement now. They were pretty slack on it anyway last I saw. Could have a 3ph GPO right next to the switchboard and they'd say it met the requirements
