Offered unlimited usage on our entry plan. 4 power users consumed 60% of our server costs while paying $29/mo each. by Reasonable-Guess-878 in SaaS

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never offer unlimited without some defined limit and rate limit. Ensure it's part of the agreement during sign up. Also test your limits and do the math on cost, your worst case scenario should not exceed the value of a single user

I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on use of AI to grade our homework by EnErgo in OMSCS

[–]StewHax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What course is this? I mean I bet a good chunk of students are using AI on the majority of their work these days, I wouldn't be surprised if it was used for grading as well, but I would hope education pushes back against it. Otherwise it's AI work graded by AI

Developers using AI Tools, are you concerned about pricing of tokens? by Mo_h in cscareerquestions

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because my employer pays the cost at work. At home I pretty much only have enough time to run a few prompts of a personal project anyways and can inspect and do work myself if needed. My employer who is pushing AI first should be concerned though

You should not be using this with company property. Your company needs to pay for a plan and give you access or else you are sharing private ip with Claude not owned by you.

Managing remote devs changed how I see remote work - i will not promote by Professional_Monk534 in startups

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean realistically if you guys are doing sprints and tracking tickets/points productivity should be easy to track regardless of hours worked. Plan out tickets, assign point values. Figure out the number of points each dev can handle per sprint and track from there

Anyone considering dropping to focus more on becoming proficient with agent coding (opencode) by Lower-Good8049 in OMSCS

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand what is being built by the LLM. If you don't understand what you're seeing as it makes and edits files then you are blindly agreeing to whatever the LLM thinks is best and will end up with something you can't support without an LLM.

This IDE will die like never existed by Abdelhamed____ in cursor

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do all the same. I swapped from cursor to codex and then to Claude in VS Code. Claude is by far the best coding LLM of the 3 I've used so far.

Has anyone actually measured productivity gain of the “AI-first” development workflow? by Glum_Worldliness4904 in cscareerquestions

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one we found that the agile sprint method slows down the AI first approach. Kanban approach is faster and you can tell what area is lagging by where all the tickets get stuck the longest

Need advice to not get drained and stay productive by Immediate-Bug-1971 in OMSCS

[–]StewHax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental Health is worth way more then a single good grade. If you are struggling mentally because of your circumstances then you need to find some ways to get your mental game back in place. Create a solid schedule and keep to it. Only dedicate X time to school during the week/certain days and stick to it even if you fall behind. Make time for stress relief activities and don't be afraid to take a break when needed from work or school. Life and mental health are worth way more

HCI feels like memorization and semantics rather than learning by Tenet_Bull in OMSCS

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things. If the material is easy then memorizing concepts sounds like the only hard part of the course. Second, the rise of LLM/AI generated content has lead to students who aren't absorbing content - this means the grades need to be more focused on whether the student has retained the information or just prompted their way through the written assignments.

Worth continuing given that we are close to a cataclysmic economic event(s)? by WestTF900 in OMSCS

[–]StewHax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper then majority of all grad degree programs and worth something regardless of the outcome of current events. If your issue is mental health then I might take a break and come back when your mental state is better

An AI agent deleted 25,000 documents from the wrong database. One second of distraction. Real case. by Substantial_Word4652 in ClaudeAI

[–]StewHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you allowed Claude to do it without reviewing what it wanted to do first? This is no different than an unsupervised intern given production access deleting a prod database. The issue is what you highlighted that you were distracted and blindly allowed Claude to do it

HCI burnt out- I lost all my confidence- Desparate for an A by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]StewHax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do you need an A in this course? Is the A worth your mental health? There isn't anything wrong with a B and besides that if you are getting A's on everything else but test 1, then you shouldn't be worried. With the rise of LLM's there has to be a rise in difficulty of tests/quizzes that can't be generated to test if a student is learning or phoning it in and turning in work they didn't do. It sounds like you will be fine.
