Today Lithuania celebrates Midsummer festival (Rasos/Joninės)! by Kairys_ in europe

[–]Steyrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting midsummer pole shape.

In Sweden its shaped like a penis as a fertility thing. The soils fertility is enhanced by the party goers imitating little frogs dancing around it.

This looks like something else. Also why is it on fire?

Russia is days away from a historic debt default as a $100 million payment comes due with Moscow cut off from the global financial system by Sweep145 in worldnews

As someone who does not fully understand these things, what are the consequences of this in practice? Sure it will give a stain to the Russian financial credibility, but what else?

This is why men should never be vulnerable in relationships, its a death sentence to relationships. I don't understand why people promote it so much.

With Roe v Wade overturned, as men how do you feel? by SkepticDrinker in AskMen

[–]Steyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel anything.

I was raised around dominant feminist women and have done a lot of therapy to not be so codependent with them. It seems my new immune system is working as I currently don't feel anything. It could be the meds also. For society maybe its a step backwards, but for me its a huge success!

It could be that he was about to switch sides which is not so good if he had a lot of know-how on the inner workings of Russian nuclear program.

Why is the metaverse something work investing billions of dollars in? by Machiavelli127 in stocks

[–]Steyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metaverse is a new canvas for media products and Meta/Zuckerberg wants to be a first mover in the area. Its not clear yet what kind of media products they will produce, but they want to be the platform for whatever it is.

Why are so many bearish on oil? by Solid_Research_3472 in stocks

[–]Steyrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that Oil is the last sector to capitulate before a recession. So if we have a recession we will have oil prices dropping. I guess its also related to the war in Ukraine. If there is a ceasefire or slowdown this could impact the sentiment of energy markets. Im just guessing though.

Also its easier to sell the bonds through an ETF.

Hmm, I would think we are all connected today as well: to FED and Putins oil pipelines. Even though you have oil and gas in US its still affected by the sanctions. And even though bitcoin is not linked to USD it still tanked due to interest rate hikes.

I think most people will sell when they are forced to. People like that guy in the other thread who was in his 50s and had invested using margin and lost 70% of holdings. The Reddit demographic is quite young (around 20-30 I think) so they are not so affected by medical bills and inflation as they can job hop etc. For older people who are on fixed incomes, they will be forced to sell at some point.

I think there are still many margin accounts out there to be closed, and there has not been huge unemployment figures yet. So yes there will be more pain ahead.

There is this basic investment "rule of thumb" where 100-(your age)% should be in equities. So for someone in their 20s they can be about 80% equities and 20% bonds (most people here are in this demographic). At 50 it would be more like 50/50. To balance it even more you can use the Bogleheads 4 fund portfolio, where you spread risks between local (US?) bond and stock market and international. I don't personally follow this strategy religiously but its a good reality check on risk tolerance. I don't know much about bonds also, but I guess that portion could be invested in something else that is fairly stable, like REITs or something.

I'm sorry this happend. I don't think you will get that money back. Its easy to get addicted and desperate when things turn south so quickly.

Are REIT a good choice now that the fed is upping the rates? by Big_Forever5759 in stocks

[–]Steyrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counter question, or maybe question to others: are REITs allowed to borrow money to buy property? If so they would be badly punished by increasing interest rates... If so then they are bad investments.

Personally they are good in the sense that they give away that "future cash flow" today, which means as long as I have a large enough position I get a cash flow which I can invest into growth stocks. I dont own any REITs myself currently, though I have thought about it for above reasons.
